Default little OT looking for....

Im looking to buy a big horsepower drag motor to fit in a approx 89 mustang. I am trying to revive my brothers dream muscle car that he wanted before he died. The chassis is almost finished but I know nothing about v8s. I know he wanted to go turbo but ran out of money fpor the project, Im wondering which is the best way for v8 poweer to hit 7-8 ET. Nitrous, Rawpower or Turbo, I dont want to go crazy on money just good reliable muscle car. I would prefer a crate motor for ease. Thanks in advance.

too small, go bigger, put a big bigblock in there, like well not to sure on ford sizes but an equavelent to like a chevy 454. throw in a big cam, with ported heads and everything, high comp pistons, put a high rise intake mani and a big *** carb. make it really high comp so you need to run race gas, put on big slicks. ford 9" rear end, they the best.

wait 454 is too small, 502 hell yeah

Na,if you gonna go for a 502 might as well step up to the 572 anyway...

saso check out these guys,,they build motors for Chris Little (8.76s on drag radials) and Don Walsh Jr (6.65s Pro 5.0 car)---> http://www.bennettracing.com/...You want to get an engine that is based on either a SVO block or a Dart Block..I favor the Dart and around 400 cubes.

347's are known to be short lived motors. A turbocharged 308 or at the most a 331 will be more than enough power. Many of the NMRA racers run some crazy times with smaller displacement then the 347. Try http://www.Turbomustangs.com its a cool site that i visit.

drop a 393 Windsor crate motor with a turbo or ProCharger. NA 393's with carb setups have hit in the 500-550whp range and are FI ready. I have seen people making 600-700whp when using a nitrous setup or a ProCharger setup with this on 91 pump gas.

Or you could go with a 520c.i.d 460 big block. This setup NA can see the likes of 750-800whp NA in race form!!!! Oh yeah and since its a stroker you should see around 550trq at 3500rpms and a peak of 550+trq at 5000rpms or so.

Most of these setups are decient in price. I would figure around 1000-2000 for the crate setup, pending extra's you might add like better rods, crank, etc... Also you still have to add the extra's like carbs, ignition, fueling, cams, etc...

Just do a search for what your looking for on any mustand site. Check places like Mustand World, etc... for more info.

After checking around take a look at this. Trick Flow did 3 of the most common/popular crate motor buildups. The 347, 393, and the 520. They have tons of info and options to try out:

I checked out the windsor looks good. Who builds them, do they build them for turbo, Should I go charger or turbo? I guess with the weight of a 89 Mustang I might need at least 1000hp to put that baby in the 8's. Am I correct? The chassis is pretty much race ready.

Try John Urist at http://www.uristracing.com

He runs a 347ci with a T-96 on it for most classes that he races in. Has run a best of 7.40's at 180 or so mph in a 3500lbs car or 2001 Saleen. He runs in the Super Street Outlaw class. A heads up 10.5" slick class. He is a pretty nice guy I have talked to him a few times. Seems really honest!
