"the hf weighs 1723 and the si weighs 1974"

is that true, i was under the impression that the crx hf weighed a bit more than that?

It's not any one thing, it's a combination of LOTS of *small* things (smaller on the HF ). The HF uses thinner axles, smaller and thinner brake rotors up front, ALUMINUM rear drums, lighter (2.5mph) bumpers, thinner seats, a lighter engine and transmission, smaller radiator, etc. It all adds up.

If I were building my first-gen autocross car again, I'd start with an HF and swap a few crucial items over from an Si. That way, I'd get Si power and handling, but NOT the Si's weight penalty!
