Default My all motor setup. Let me know what you think

Just want to get some input on what you guys think about my setup. What kind of times anyone runs with a similar setup etc. etc...
B20 block
JE 12:1 pistons
Eagle rods
Milled crank
Everything Cryo treated
New bearings throughout
B16 1st gen head
Skunk 2 stage 2 cams
Skunk 2 springs and retainers
ITR intake manifold
Str 68mm Throttle body
LS transmission
ACT Clutch
I'm dropping this motor into my 96 hatch its stripped out pretty bare still have dash and both front seats but everything I didn't need is gone. Let me know what kind of Header and Exhaust would work well with this setup. Thanks for any input.

I'd get a custom header for the application, also would run 2.5" straight back exhaust. The intake mani should work well, might want to get it ported a bit. The tranny will hold you back quite a bit, other than that.. looks OK.

What about the tranny will hold me back? Is anyone running an LS tranny with a similar setup? Let me know what kind of tranny would work best with this setup.

He would need a hydro trannt since its a 96 hatch. Dump the ls tranny fast cause it will make you slow, anything else would be better but a type R with a factory lsd would be nice.

Get rid of the ls tranny and get a gsr tranny. gsr/type r tranny's are a little stronger than si trannies. If you can get your hands on a gsr block, get that and resleeve. 10x stronger than the b20 block

whats with the LS tranny?

go with a 97+ US ITR tranny.. nice gearing

a B16A or GSR tranny would be a good choice too, only reason id take the ITR over the B16 is because of its double syncros between the gears (b16 single)

what is a milled crank? lightened?
watch out for cracked sleeves. 12.0:1 is getting up there.
which cam gears?
gonna do a lighter flywheel?
looks pretty good.

Aside from the tranny replacement, I would watch out for 12:1 on stock sleeves. Even at 84mm. That is pushing it quite a bit. Unless you are resleeving then n/m.

The reason I was going with the LS tranny is just because currently I have an LS motor in my hatch. I was just gonna switch it over since I had it, but if its going to make a big difference i'll get rid of it.
Do you think I will have a problem running that high of compression on stock sleeves? Would it be better to get them sleeved? Looking for an info you want to give me I want this motor to be a monster and I don't want to have trouble with it.

you'll be fine with the sleeves- people are really over cautious with B20 sleeves... I'd look at putting a block girdle on the bottom end- this is controversial- but I'm putting a CRVT through it's paces right now.. so I'll take my first hand knowledge over here-say. Is this going to be mainly a drag race type car? if so the revolutions aren't going to stay high for long enough to really be an issue. B20 sleeves tend to drop after a little bit of time- from what I've heard from a few users.

This car is going to be a street car, its not a daily driver but wouldn't mind if It still could drive 100miles without major problems. Actually i'd like to be reliable enough to drive anytime without problems. I'll do whatever it takes to ensure the block is bullet proof and doesn't have any sleeve issues. Keep the advice coming

Like I said, IF you can, sell the b20 and get a gsr block then resleeve it to 85 mm

If your willing to do anything it takes, then get it sleeved. I don't have any first hand experience with the b20, but I do know from doing research, I would get it sleeved. I've got a b16 that I'm going a little work to right now (CTR pistons bored .5mm over, GSR head mildly ported) and I thought about getting that sleeved. It's going to be my daily driver. I'm also going to build a turbo eg hatch over the winter, that I'm sleeving definately, cuz like you, I want to be able to drive it anytime with no problems. IMPO, if ya got the funds, sleeve it.

what's up with the LS tranny??? are you gay or something? get the custom quaife tranny with a 4.78 final drive...custom bell housing, quaife LSD... but it costs $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$
just get the JDM ITR 98 spec tranny...comes with LSD and 4.78 final drive stock

Hey thanks for the advice guys, i'll probably go ahead and get it sleeved then. And as far as that last comment if I had that much money to build a tranny I would, but like my previous post says "I already had the tranny" So eat the head. Just trying to save money anyway I can. So what kind of times has anyone run with a similar setup?

tripleblacksnatch i don't think you need the sleeves unless you plan on running the nitrous on it. if you want the extra security of them, just keep your ls and bore it to 85mm like someone mentioned above. otherwise take the money you were going to use for sleeves and get a gsr tranny. with love.

If you have not bought the B20 yet, sleeve your LS to 85mm and buy a gsr/itr tranny with lsd. That would be a "monster" set up like you want. It would also be reliable since you would have the sleeves, your compression isn't to high, and your cams aren't too extreme.

i meant if you were to use the ls sleeve it to 85mm, not bore it, but i still think you will be fine without sleeving the b20 block. use the money elsewhere.

i would go with an Si tranny over the ls cause the Si has much shorter gears and that will benfit ur setup much better with short gearing
