Gm Synchromesh user's quick question....
i just wanted to know b4 i waste the 2 qts of modified and 1 qt of regular will this fluid get me into 4th gear? i know it helps with grinds, but will it get me into the gear? i want to know if this helped anyone get into gear when b4 they coudnt let me knwo or else il put this stuff in my other tranny....
Only one way to find out. That sucks I know, but that's called trial & error. I'm sure it's the same way people came to using it in our Honda trannies in the first place, it was for me.
Don't waste your money on tranny fluid. You have a tranny problem, different fluid won't help at all. Are you always grinding in 4th gear or just at high rpms?

actally i have a awd dsm for winter and 2nd is shot 100% and the addition of BG syncroshift allows me to now grind into it or not grind with a under 2100 shift .... so yes its really worth it in the long run .... tranny also shifts 200% smoother

i second this opinion. synchromesh is for fixing worn synchros, not for fixing major problems. you can try it if you want, but i guarantee you in the end you'll still have a broken tranny and be $35 lighter.

No. Synchromesh fluid will not repair any damage in your transmission. There is a good chance it may not work for you, depending on how far gone your synchros are - and it will only mask the damage temporarily, if you continue to shift like a jackass.
BTW, what's with all of this "2 bottles, 1 bottle, 3 bottles" stuff? Why the hassle? Just run straight Friction Modified.

I say try it, if you don't have $35 for the fluid you don't have $XXX.XX for fixing the transmission. Buy a few lest beers for the next week or two and give it a shot. Worst that will happen is it won't help.

At any General Motors vehicle dealership.
Go down to your local Chevy dealer and pick some up, but be warned it is significantly more expensive than conventional motor oil. I paid $8.50 per quart for the Friction Modified, however I've heard of others paying even more.

you can get that magic staff at you local GM dealer. I want to but that friction modfier but nobody has it and i have to order the whole case that is $$$150 for 12 quarts, and this is in New York City.
Also, keep in mind that GM Synchromesh is made by Pennzoil, and can be found under the Pennzoil and Quaker State brand names as well.
only reason im mixing modified with the regular stuff is cuz they only had 2 of modified and im going to do the fluid swap either today or tomarow, hopefully after a couple hundred miles i can get 4th back a bit more cuz if not im going to recycle it and put it in a diff tranny cuz its to expensive just to drain and get rid of...

If it works, then it should be worth every penny.
For me, $5 per quart extra over Honda MTF is certainly worth it to smooth out my transmission's notchy shifts, and eliminate those occasional grinds.

It's not guaranteed to work, but it should help some.
As for the regular vs. Friction Modified, that's up to you. I bought the Friction Modified, though others seem to have had luck with the regular.

maybe i was unclear....no, it doesnt actually physically fix the synchro, but the properties of the oil make the worn synchros work much better than they do (in most cases) with regular MTF. so in essence, it gives the illusion that the synchros are fixed. i used it for the first time just this month and my S1 feels like its brand new again (it used to grind badly in third). i dont know about you but i consider that a "fix".

I am glad to hear this...
Just put yet another tranny in my hatch..(2nd one this month...last one had a blown mainshaft bearing..)
put in the Si tranny and what do you know... GRIND!! But only from 2nd to 3rd...So this is my light at the end of the tunnel...
I hope this helps it a bit... It seems that the success ratio is pretty good... at least for fixing the grinds... *crossing fingers*
