100% untrue.
First of all, the sales of the Si hatchback were never strong, thus the introduction of the coupes in 1993. Yes they did sell off the lots fairly quickly in 1992, but in 1993 the EX coupe started cannibalizing sales of the Si hatchback.
The sales were so poor in the U.S that Honda pulled the plug on any further sports model hatchbacks until 2002, when they introduced the EP Si hatchback.
There goes the theory for such a high demand, eh?
Also there were NEVER any SOHC trannies with LSD in the U.S - ever.
They are hard enough to find these days from Japan and abroad in the VTi models, and a handful of special edition Civics in Japan such as the OBD1 DOHC ZC-powered Anniversary Edition that had an LSD hydro tranny too.
In short, tell that guy on the VW Vortex that he is mistaken.
