I was also looking at a couple new bikes from the dealer (yamaha r6, kawasaki zx9r something, suzuki gsxr600, honda cbr600, etc.)

As you may tell, I am a beginner to the bike world. Should I buy a cheaper used bike, or a brand new bike? If I buy a new bike, I will have to finance. Is it worth it? Sorry, I dont have extra money to spend on a beginner bike.

I use this bike mainly for school because I go to a very crowed univ. and it's very hard to find parking.

What's the main difference between a R6 and a R1, pete? I can see from the picture that the R6 is a little smaller. What else. How would you compare all these bikes from different company? Which one is more easier to tune and maintain.

Thank you all for your time to read my post and answer my questions. thank you!

If that's the case, then get a not-as-new/not-as-hot-looking bike. You're less likely to be a target for theft that way. Plus, some people are haters, and might knock your bike over if it's prettier than theirs. (no offense pete, not trying to ruin your sale...actually, let me know more about your bike, because my friend is thinking about buying either an R6 or GSXR600). Insurance will be cheaper for an older bike and so would replacement parts (should you need it).

All the (Japanese) bikes are pretty easy to maintain. It might seem tedious at first (always checking the tire pressure, any punctures to the tires, chain condition, any oil/fluid leaks, blinkers, etc.), but just remember it's your @$$ on the line. So make the extra effort to make sure your bike is in tip-top shape.

Might be able to get a good deal on a F4i. Either that or a '03 R6

Hows the YSR? I might get another one in a couple months so I can bring it to the track

You wouldnt happen to go to SFSU would you? If you do I have the R6 with the CF exhaust. The R6 and R1 is about the same size but the R1 has about 30-40 more HP. My R6 has been dropped by the previous owner and has scratches but I installed frame and clutch sliders. Let me know if you are interested.

I decided to keep it at 50cc but I added a twin pipe, jet kit, and a new clutch. I love it more now then before. I can't wait till my new bodywork gets here and I'll post pics.

No, I go to SJSU. and I sometimes take classes at foothill college. and YES! i am interested in your bike. i hope i can buy my first bike from a honest seller because I really dont know how to inspect a bike, that's why i was thinking about buying it from a dealer even though it will cost way more.

The bike only has been dropped and the running problems was with my YSR. I can probably go $4700 since I put new pads, a steering damper, new tail piece, and frame/clutch sliders.

I just bought a 2001 R1 today for $4500. I know it's too powerful for me. But it was a pretty good deal
