Z6 or ZC
Debating on which to swap. The donor is a 90 DX hatch, can't decide which would be easier the ZC or Z6 swap, I know both bolt right in, I can re-use the current transmission (although SI or SI/ZC hybrid would be better) but the wiring is the dilema, the ZC I can do the DPFI to MPFI conversion with an 89 teg ecu and resistor box but am confused on the easiest route to go on the Z6 swap, use the Z6 engine harness/ECU (and re-wire the rest of the car) or the 90 converted harness with an OBD1-OBD0 conversion harness on the P28 ECU and add the VTEC wires manually. Would prefer the Z6 swap cause I love that motor just looking for opinions from someone who has done these swaps, and I figured they would both cost roughly the same but looking for the smallest headache.
Smallest Headache-ZC bro
you already running NON OBD electronics, and nothing's fried, so go DOHC ZC
Both have similar performance, don't listen to "there's more aftermarket for the SOHC" mumbo jumbo
They're both D series only thing they don't make for the DOHC is an intake manifold, not universal like the SOHC D's.
Cams they can regrind, Cam Gears they got, Distributors are 89 Integ, headers and intakes all fit.
Turbo kits fit, clutches fit, tranny's fit, axles fit (unless you run the ZC trans)

I would say just the opposite: Get a Z6. Newer, easier to find, all the parts are easy to get, and I would say it would be quicker than a ZC, with a proper ECU (P28) and I/E. However, if you don't know how to do the wiring, or feel it's too tough to do, then get a ZC. Sohc VTEC's are the better engines in my oinion.
Appreciate the help, Z6 are pretty cheap to find and I am very familiar with them (I had a turbo 93 EX... AEM Hyper 2 rods, SRP pistons, 50 overbore blah blah blah) sold it and made a dumb move getting a 2003 S2000. Anyhow I'm confident in my mechanical and wiring skills, I'm just looking for something that could be done in a weekend and the car driven to work on Monday (once every part is sourced and on hand). Also it will need to pass a sniffer test, I just wanted some opinions on what some here have done.
i just got my ZC today, hopefully everything will go togeather smoothly. the reason i went ZC was b/c it was easier to find and cheeper. the local junk yards here wanted $850-$1200 for just a Y8 motor. and someof them had over 100,000 miles. i have my ZC shipped for little under $700 from hmotorsonline.com and it took a week for it to go from Cali to AL. it came with alternater wiring harness, and a few other parts. i havent really looked at it to much but its sitting in the back of my truck.
Thanks, I've been doing some more research and looks like I'm leaning toward the ZC, I can get a Z6 longblock for about $300 locally with 140k on it. For about $125 more I should be able to get a ZC but there is a JDM engine distributor about 2 hours from my house I'm gonna call and see what they can get. I just don't feel like spending the same for the motor as I have to for shipping, $700 was about the standard I found when I looked into this a year ago which really isn't that bad.... I still have the 89 Teg ecu and resistor box but never got the motor.
