Well I purchased a Spoon Oil Pan thinking it was going to be a professional product. I am posting these pics not to flame about Spoon but to inform people of how easy it is to baffle your own factory oil pan.

Mugen and Spoon Both just baffle an OEM Pan, Yes some people can do their own but some do not have the tools to do so, or the time.

 

how much did the oil pan cost you ?

Spoon oil pan can be had for less then $300. But the Mugen pan is the better of two plus it is cheaper as well. Atleast Mugen paints the inside of the oil pan to cover up the welds.

honestly, once it's bolted in, nobody will be able to see those welds. (still, i do agree that they should have at least put some more effort into touching up the product; well as long as it works)

 

it cost me $400 aussie plus shipping. It may work like it is meant to but the quality is very dissapointing. It is probably the last spoon product that I will purchase, from what i have seen spoon is just OEM parts with a few modifications to them, eg throttle body has been just bored out etc.....

 

I bought a Mugen one and it's similar to the Spoon but all painted black inside.
also, Mugen & gasket was cheaper than just OEM pan at my honda dealer.

I found a picture of the Mugen Oil pan on the King motorsport site....It's too small

But does anyone have a better shot of the Mugen Oil Pan.

I like the deeper lip on the Mugen pan. It also looks alittle better. I meen, tighter fit around the Oil pickup.

The spoon design, Simple but two peice.
Mugen, More complicated, but one peice to weld in.

Of course the Spoon type would be easier to replicate. But I'd like to press-out a One Plate to weld in, like the Mugen design.

there are 3 pieces to weld in... there are two vertical pieces (along with the top piece) that help with side to side sloshing.

 

Out of curiousity, would Mugen use OEM-quality paint, given their ties with Honda and general professionalism?

 

I just meant that the mugen baffle looks like it fits alittle nicer around the Oil pickup and around the edges. A good baffle must only have 2 holes in it. 1 for Oil pick-up the other for the dip stick. The only other thing it MUST have is a turned down lip on those two holes, for obvious reasons.

Of course I don't care about the Paint, Although, I didn't know about paint coming off. I'd use High-Temp paint if I painted it anyway.

Ouch for the money that looks like poo here what you get for 60, plus a core from me...





Baffling the pan is not hard at all, but if you dont have welder or something to cut the sheet metal then it just becomes a problem. But nobody should be paying more then 100 for a modified stock pan. For 300-400 i think you can the moroso pan, or i can make a one off for that money.

What is wrong with the Quality? Does it serve its intended purpose? Would it make you feel better if it had the welded sections painted and came in a Wooden Boc with Spoon Brazed in Gold Foil?
Alot of Spoon Parts are OEM Parts, Why? Because the parts they sell are the parts they use in their race cars and the parts have to meet the rules of that race division. So if the Rules say that They can Taper an OEM Throttle Body but that they can't replace it with a Non OEM Piece, why would Spoon Sell something different? They sell what they use on the track. To Top it off 75% of the time OEM Stuff has a Much better quality than some of the Aftermarket stuff.

 

$400.00 is not bad for a Spoon oil pan .
since a lot of there products cost an arm and a leg ...
