Default DTR vs SMS

I am thinking about buying one of these high-dollar headers for my B18C5 CRX. But I am usure which to get. DTR sounds nice because the wait is shorter and they are local. But then again, I have heard rumors of 20WHP from the SMS header- quite a bit higher than what was seen with the DTR header. This might make the wait and inconvenience of dealing with someone on the other side of the continent worthwhile if it is true. Has anyone actually compared the two headers? Actual, unbiased dyno numbers would be VERY helpful (but maybe too much to hope for). Also, is the 20WHP gain seen with the SMS header a gain above and beyond the USDM and early JDM cast exhaust manifold? Or is it the gain above the later JDM ITR 4-1 header (as was with the DTR header)? This would narrow the difference to within the range of error.

Start by comparing the specs.

im sure that a tuned DTR header would make close to 20whp over the jdm 4-1. my car made 172 before the cams and the header and now i make close to 200. Both are really good headers and i never had a SMSP so i couldn't tell you about that one.

DTR.. simply because of these 5 things.

1. DTR makes off the hook ****
2. His turn around time in unbelievable
3. Dyno results from his headers are crazy.. 15-20 gain just by slapping it on.
4. i have never seen an SMS header (heard the wait is almost 4 years! haha jk)
5. Dannys headers work. he ran a street version 2.0l big header on his drag car and ran 10's. that thing must flow very well.

im runnin DTR, not on yet, but i cant wait for my motor to get done so i can get some dynos up..hah...anyways, like all things on HT, everything is a 6th grade popularity contest, im sure that both of these guys know what they are doing, but the reason i went with danny is because #1: Local. Nothin like being able to drive and pickup your header a week after you ordered it, #2: Proven. I mean ****...he took his lowest quality header and pulled a 10.8 (best time) with it, i can only imagine what he woulda hit with his side exit. #3 Quality. Best materials used, welds looks spectacular, all around good product/service. Again, not knockin SMS, just stating why i went with danny when it came down to the descision.

DTR is new to the seen, hense his turn around time maybe be better than SMSP, due to the extremely large clientel that SMSP has. Im sure if DTR is around long enough that he will experience the same back log.

George Knighton, and many other are running smsp Headers. He put down about 191whp, on a stock ITR motor, with i belive hondata, and cam gears and such.

Not to mention about 75% of yeah 11sec NA Street Cars are running SMSP 2L headers. Mackspeed-616 Ran 11.83@115+ with on his 2L with SMSP's 1.8L Type R Header. Im sure the rest will chime in soon.

SMSP - Track Proven and Dyno Proven.

1.SMSP
2.Hytech
3.DTR or Header Tech.

I have a SMSP header, they are custom made to your car/engine. 4-6 months wait.

DTR header looks like early SMSP header..

If you want specs search for SMSP as the creator in archived contents of all forums. The itr dynos can easily be found with that search. IIRC gains were about 15-20 whp. His h22 header made roughly 20-30 whp (there was no baseline, due to length of development period). I should be receiving mine next week, took 5 weeks from the day i sent the deposit.

I was in the same position as you about 1 month ago. I couldn't decide on what to get...DTR or SMSP!
I decided on DTR because I went to their shop & spent 1 hour talking with Danny about his headers until all my questions were answered. He is a great guy. He actually told me I was the first guy to come into his shop to place an order. All of his previous orders were mail orders.
I was also amazed at the turnaround time too. Right under 2 weeks is alot better than 3 months. THe apperance is awesome. The fit is perfect. It hugs tight to my oil pan.

I plan to redyno this upcoming week. Hit me up for results later.

I would go with DTR
I run the 1.8 street headers and i made 10 whp over the Jdm DC headers just by slapping it on.

DTR Rocks

I did the same with my sms and made 17 over the jdm 4-1 just by slapping it on as well. 1.8L Stock ITR Motor

ok, whatever floats your boat man, you go ahead and run you dc sports 4-2-1 2 piece ceramic header with you nice little tiny 2" collector and make 1-2hp over stock. you are calling us dumb to spend $700-1000 on a header than makes 10-20whp.. but you spend $250-300 on a header that doesnt do anything but "look" like a performance header. your dumb

well i guess im a moron then for running a DTR header.

just remember that some people change headers 2 or 3 times. so if u think about it dumbass, it would cost close to one dtr, smsp, hytech header and it will outperform it, plain and simple.

ive ran jdm 4-1 and kamikaze 4-1 which ran a total of 700 bucks both brand new. pay 1000 bucks for DTR and made an extra 11whp.

Umm nice simple points

1) Is this a point?
2) Valid point
3) Vague, no apples-to-apples comparison to SMSP
4) I'm talking out of my *** cause I've never seen an SMSP header before, but DTR is better, for real yo!
5) Using figures from fully built drag cars that run 10's is a good way to compare stuff for street use. Again no comparison to all drag SMSP headers.

did you just decide you wanted a list of 5 points in advance, and then realize you needed some filler?
