Default Where do you guys put your 2 Step Button?

I just picked up my MSD 2 step, and i wanted to know a good location to mount the button to switch between lauch, and my upper rev limit

Was thinking around where my ebrake is, anyone have pics of their placement or ideas?

Ebrake handle is a good place to start, or you should look into a hydraulic handbrake like seen on all the pro cars, it sticks straight up and it's easier to work with, a switch off the clutch is also not a bad idea

mine's on the cluth pedal. When the clutch pedal is pushed in, your in launch mode, when its not, your in High Rev Limit mode. Simple and you dont have to worry about a button or any visible wiring

What he said...

We put ours on the clutch pedal too...put it so that its activated only when the clutch is pushed all the way in...That way, pull to the line, push the clutch all the way in and floor it! Whola, it'll go to your two step rpm, once you drop the clutch, it reverts back to your normal rev limiter...

i say put it some place near the shifter. this way once you launch all you have to do is throw the button on the floor.

I was looking at a 2 step today and was wandering the same thing. If i were to mount it where it was clutch activated wouldnt it try to activate the 2 step when I was banging the gears down the track and pushing down the clutch pedal?

Get a spiral cord button (similar to a phone cord) and mount it on your steering wheel

yea. thats what i think..maybe if the rpms are so high it "overrides" the msd and it doesnt kick it in(the 2 step action) also.. a signal might need some throttle input as well..so if you are between shifts you would most likely have your foot off the throttle and that would cause the 2 step to not kick in.
im not completly sure how this works.

You'll be fine between shifts, unless you shift like an old lady, when you have the switch activated you're probally racing which means you'll be shifting as fast as possible. None of our cars have ever had a problem with the switch being wired to the clutch pedal during shifting.

i think you have to have the pedal all the way to the floor, with the ems you can set it so over a certain speed it wont activate.. say 10mph

I would recommend against that.......we had it that way on Brittanys car and it caused nothing but problems, so I put it on the stage brake and she likes it there

I like the clutch idea better, especially if you could incorporate the 10mph thing into that.............my stock ECU has that feature, so I know it can be done

maybe I'll just use my stock ECU next year.......I wonder if any pro car has ever used a stock ECU?

i mounted mine on my steering wheel with a coiled wire connected to a push button switch i bought from radio shack. works great. but alot of people think its a nitrous button.

I've got some pretty whack wiring in my car setup for my two step and nitrous but it's good stuff. Relay's are your friend.

Relay one is attached to the horn buttons. Converts a negative trigger a positive trigger.
Relay number two is wired up like a starter kill relay. +12v trigger coming from the horn button relay, which completes the circuit for the resistors I have on a potentiometer for my two step. (using a potentiometer w/ resistors to fool the MSD 6AL I have into thinking it has a pill of a certain value in it).

I also then have a relay off of my clutch switch that breaks the signal going to the nitrous solenoids, making sure that when I am staged and on the two step it has not engaged the nitrous. Works quite well. :-)
