that is pretty big, probably cuase the cost of the pistons for that size bore might cost some cashish. NOt sure if that size is customer made but more than likely.

actually only like 30 bucks more for 86mm pistons vs. like a 84mm...i am personally goin w/ 84mm right now in case something happens to the block and i'd have to rebore...just kinda nice to have a little leway...if i was loaded though, i'd be drivin around at 86mm....bore size that is

86mm here:

Block specs are gsr block, GE sleeved, custom 13.5:1 86mm Arias pistons, eagle rods, balanced and blueprinted. Looking for 230whp pre-itb's. BTW, the pistons were only 50.00 more than off the shelf through Arias. The intake/exhaust reliefs are pretty deep as well.

Wow, what kind of displacement is that?

Jerry's Jerry Built/IB motor runs 86mm and is daily driven...

86 x 89 = 2060cc which is a 2.1L

262 WHP

11.86

Full interior, Stock doors and fenders...

Makes me curious what a deck plate motor with a 95mm stroke would do...

2207cc... 2.2L B Series motor... that would be some niceness

Those pistons are too pretty for that block

J/K. Looks killer.

it doesnt leave much room for repairs, but it would be fine for all motor.
big displacement rules

thats feakin sick! someone on the forums said 86mm should only be done for race use. besides the fact there is little room to rebore, why would that be true?? what about 85.5?

86mm pistons won't cost that much more. It is possible to run an 87mm bore. Granted sleeves do start getting pretty thin. Larger bore you go the harder it is to seal. That's one of the main reasons people don't go so high.

from what i've read, the power gains from the 86mm bore are negligible over ~84mm bore, since most of the power from going 84mm over 81mm is made due to better breathing, not simply displacement, and if the headgasket won't seal (with the larger bore), you'll lose power and gain a big PITA. it seems that over 84mm, the head can't be configured to flow significantly better than it can at 84mm, so i'd stay around there, especially since, as others have noted, if something blows, you have room for an overbore.

/\/\/\/\ right on and well said.
And on the 2.2 liter setusp.... I would think the flow of the B series heads will be an issue with a 2.2 liter motor that has huge cams... although I want to see people make these creations!

86mm bore must be tough to seal a headgasket on with over 13:1 compression!!!!!!

The 86mm bore will be fine even with high compression with sealing. There has been some GE sponsered cars running 85-86mm with 30psi, and no headgasket sealing issues. I will have to see how the set-up runs, but I am knocking on wood that everything will be fine. I had portflow do the cylinder head (b16a) and spotface the combustion chamber to 86mm, as well as port the head in the corresponding manner for a 86mm bore. I have thought through everything on this built up, I just hope that the reliability and #'s will speak for themselves in the future.

from what you've READ?!? Get your nose outta the book and hit the track. I've seen over 20whp from 84-86. My dyno is proof, as wel as my time slips.

If you wouldnt mind sharing, what did you make with your block? I'd love to see a dyno graph if at all possible.

BTW, checked out your site...is that SGT's dyno your car was strapped on?

You gained 20 whp from going from 84mm to a 86mm bore?

not sgt's dyno, just a local one we use.
the dyno sheet is under wraps for now.

i personally never built both a 84 and an 86mm engine. but i have been around plenty of 84-84.5's to know what those were making consistantly. And i know what mine makes. so yeah, there werent the same motors, but im making about 20whp more than those 84s ive been around. hell im making over 50hp more than some mild 2.0litre setups, there are alot of varying factors at that point. but nothing i do is that extreme, pretty simple and smart setup really.

I actually believe you can gain 20whp from the step from 84mm to 86mm, its a proportional amount like going from 82mm to 84mm which produces a signficant amount. The larger area of the piston you can place a load on (work) the more torque produced, thus increasing horsepower.
