DSM CIVIC HATCH!
ok guys get this... my buddy is picking up a civic dx tonite for $300, he already has a 2.0 turbo engine and tranny that he is going to put into it. he will be taking pictures of this and maybe a swap tech can be written lol. it will be fwd with eclipse suspension and custom axles. i hope he can get it running good and work everything out b/c its gonna scream!
he is not going to be over his head. he is an electrician for lakeshore electric (for anyone in west MI i recomend u go here) this kid can work on cars like no other, he has a 91 galant vr4 that he has modded to hell and done it all himself. he is like a dsm genius. he alse has all the tools from his work that he'll use also. im sure it will take a while but all he has left to do is get it in there, wire it, custom axles, maybe a new guage cluster or somehtign to see how fast hes going. it will be street legal too btw. im gonan go check out his civic tonite and see if maybe he figured anything out yet. hes got about 2500 to spend on this, he might be a lil short on cash, but i think he can pull it off
It's gonna be a waaaaayyyyy tight fit bro. I honestly don't see how you'd be able to mount it in there... Perhaps it is possible if you cut into the frame a little bit, but that's not a good idea. The FWD DSM tranny is shaped a bit different than any honda tranny is, plus that motor is a monster and it is proportioned completely different than any honda motor. Take a look at the t-belt side! There are so many pulleys, even w/out the power steering, I'm not sure if it's even possible to fit it into a 4g engine bay without doing some major cutting! But, it still might be possible...
Now if he does get it to work, that would be a bad *** setup no doubt. Those 1g DSM motors are mean, totally built up for boost. Supposedly the rods and pistons are good for 400HP w/out modification, just crank up the boost! Of course, you're gonna need a bigger turbo than the TD04........ Errr, he is using a 1g right?
Oh well, whatever - good luck w/the project, and definitely keep us updated!

That's cool, you'll definitely have to post some pics for us! My brother put on a regular sized 16g on his 1g DSM, along with a big list of other mods. It boosts pretty nicely, but he says he wants the 'big' 16g... Crazy guy.
Can't wait to see the progess!

there's a guy who put one into his 99si in the us. i had a pic of a guy with a bb1 with a 4g63, an eg with a 3sgte, and a ek with a sr20det. i'll go look for it.
those cars were from thailand.

This swap has been done before, but it was done in a crx. It was a few years back it was a 88 crx running a 1G 4G63 with rear wheel drive. From what i remember it was a pain in the *** but it hauled *** once the guy got traction.
there are all kinds of crazy swaps in thailand. when they talk about doing an engine swap, they mean one mfg's engine into another mfg's car. i hope your friend has good luck with his swap
props for doing **** a little different

I've seen pictures of that "DSM 99 Si swap".
You can see the engine stand still bolted on to the engine when its "mounted" in the car. Its either a photochop or somebody's idea of a funny joke.

The car was in the shop for some motor work and while the motor was out the DSM motor was sat in there for the hell of it. There was a post almost a year ago on a DSM board telling all about it.

ok, today i went and checked out the car my buddy bought. its a civic dx im not sure which year a 88-91 but not sure exact year. the interior is completely stripped. no dash, no nothing, not even the pad on the steering wheel. He wasnt home so i couldnt talk to him, but the engine was lowered into the car to see where the motor mounts will have to go. It fits, but he is going to have to get a huge cowl hood or something because it is quite a bit higher than the hood. I havent got any pics b.c i dont have a digital camera. but i will put some on here as soon as i get something so i can.
