here's a cliffs notes for everybody...
Car gets stolen from mall...
Car gets pulled over a week later with theif driving it on swapped plates, but doesnt come up as stolen. Theif gets away.
Detective calls owner 2 weeks later informing him that they know where the car is and are arresting the guy in the next few days.
Cops arrest guy with 5 civics being stripped, he's going to see what his looks like in a little while.

dipshit stole his car, dipshit had someone at the dmv register the car as non stolen!
guy got pulled over, detective got involved... the dumbfuck did change the plates and was driving around a stolen civic... arrested him at his house... here is his address or the area he lives in. 66th St, thats south Central, la
he got owned... car recovered... repeat felon...
found the chop shop too... recovering **** from there as well!

I had a white 95 civic coupe. ******* sweeeet *** hell, you would have to see it to appreciate it. It had koni yellows/grund control suspension, brand new rota grid (te-37) rims . which were royal black with a polised lip. Mugen lip, and some work done on the engine, blah...blah...blah.

So, anyhow, my car was stolen at a mall three weeks ago. This morning a detective calls me and tells me that a cop pulled over my car last week. The guy driving it had a valid id and he changed the license plates. The cop didnt notice anything so he just let him go. (Keep in mind the cop didnt know he swithced license plates, everyhing looked normal to him) This morning a detective calls me and tells me all this info. He said they are making a warrant as we speak. I guess theyre gonna go to that house today. Hopefully my car is they way it was when it was stolen.

The detectives arrested the guy today at his house. They got my car. I just heard this news about an hour ago. Im gonna go look at my car tommorow morning , i guess, hopefully nothing was taken from it.

Another Update:
I just got off the phone with the detective this morning. He told a team called (TRAP) part of the Los Angeles Police Department got the guy yesterday. He had 4 other stolen civics. Most of them were already being stripped. He would take the stereos and rims. But, he said my car was "intact" , that it looks like he didnt get to it yet, i guess it was next. He said my car will be ready to pick up today, but hes gonna to do paper work first, so he'll call me back in an hour. I ll be sure to take picsif i get the car either today or tommorow. Hopefully it still has my rims. Oh , he also said , the guy had lots of rims, tires, and setreos in his "chop shop"., so , if my rims are in his shop, all i have to do is sho my recipt and there mine again. wo0T!

but yeah, sounds like you might be lucky, very lucky.
its pretty rare to see someone actually steal a car because they want it to be THEIRS!
usually its just for parts, but I guess if he liked your car enough he could want to make it his, haha.
