Knocking sound coming from GSR head
I didn't get too many replies in the Teg forum, so I'm hoping for some better answers in here. Anyway...
Tuesday night I took my GSR to redline in 2nd gear, followed by the instrument lights on my gauge cluster lighting up, and the car stalled. I thought that my timing belt my have snapped, but luckily it wasn't the case.
I tried restarting the car, which it did, but it idled erractically for about 5 seconds before stalling again, so I tried a third time. It started and ran fine, so I drove it slowly back to my house.
When I got home, I could hear a knocking sound coming from the motor, which I though may have been a spun rod bearing. Upon further inspection, I realized it was coming from the bottom right hand corner of the valve cover. It sounds more severe than valves tapping, and I was a little low on oil when I checked. The knock isn't constant, it comes and goes, and increases with throttle. What do you think I fucked up under there? I don't dare take my car out til I have the time to take my valve cover off and have a look. Thanks fellas.

Well here's a little update on my prob...
I added some more oil today, hoping that I had a sticky rocker arm or something... however, it didn't fix the problem at all. Took the car for a short ride around the block to see if it would fix itself, no luck. My idle was weird today as well. Usually idles around 600-700, but it wouldn't drop below 1500, even when warmed up. I would tap the gas pedal, revs would increase, and when they dropped down, it would go to normal idle, but kick back up to 1500 a split second later. Car still seems to have the same amount of power, but a friend of mine thinks I might have crunked an intake valve or two. Does this sound like the problem to you guys? I'm doing a compression test either tomorrow or Saturday, I hope it's not as bad as I think it's gonna be...

for the idle problem, you probably blew a seal somewhere maybe valve seal,im gasket or something, did you check your timing, where r u bin laden?im in my secret bunker..hehe..take your valve cover off and start it up look around..smother all that valvtrain with good synthetic oil
Well, I have the valve cover off... no obvious signs of damage to the cams or anything... so it must be internal. Is it safe to start the car with the valve cover off? I don't want to take a shower in Castrol GTX if you get my drift. Also, where exactly are the lost motion assemblies located? Thanks fellas, I'm stressin' hard!
Well, do you think it's possible that the valve is that bad out of adjustment to the point where it makes a loud knocking sound, followed by a shitty idle? Can you really knock a valve that far out of adjustment by hitting the rev limiter for a sec, and not bend it?
