Recently my R was stolen and I am considering upgrading my 90 std from beater to reliabe everyday car.. A local import shop quoted me a price of $1800 to install..with me providing the engine.. Sounds kinda expensive too me...What do you think?

Its definately worth doing yourself. That way you KNOW exactly what has been done. It also gives you a better understanding on how everything is achieved in the swap.
Also, if anything goes wrong, you have a better chance on fixing it yourself if you sorta understand whats going on. My first swap a few years back was done by a shop, they hacked my wiring harness pretty bad. So when i went to do the next swap myself, it was a nightmare trying to figure out what the shop had done.
I ended up ripping it all out and putting the stock back in, then rewiring myself. Too much of a headache trying to figure out other peoples work.

i did mine myself. honda tech was alot of help
phatwhippin's swap guide helped me thorugh it. IMO if you are going to be driving a car without the OEM engine in it, u need ot learn how it ticks so u can fix it, since a competent mechanic is hard ot ifnd when u have a b16 in a EF

cost me $2800 to do myself, and thats WITH a 400 header and 400 ACT clutch kit... not to mention all hasport swap components and junkyard axles... OEM honda parts for a few things, and new plugs/wires...motor/tranny/ecu
in your garage, H-T friends, Case of beer, Some good music = Priceless fun
Seriously man you should do it yourself. Plus you'd gain the experience and know a little more about your car
