I hate to tell you this, but rollcages on STREET cars are uber-gay!

However, if this is going to be for a purpose-built RACE CAR only, you should ask the guys in the racing forums.

I gotta disagree... If its a show bar and not functional, then yes its gay, but if it is functional then it is a worthwhile mod. I plan on getting a full cage in my street teg, just in case I get t boned or roll at high speeds. Personal safety shouldn't be considered "gay", if you drive hard you may as well try to minimize the risks involved whether it is on the track or on the street

I think a roll cage would be super gay on a daily driver. If it's a weekend racer and pur performance, then it's cool.

Yeah, you can buy a kit that you just weld yourself if that floats your boat. Search in the FI and Drag forums for "roll cage" and you should find plenty more pictures.

a roll cage or roll bar that is functional is not uber gay, if you do it right and get youre self a harness to so youre not flying around the car and banging youre head all up, most of the time you can't have passengers i the back either just deppends though im not sure about the autopower one

Are you a moron!? Have you ever seen a car flip over? Well its not fun. I know people with dailey driven BMW M3 that have roll cages. My good friend with a Light Weight has a roll cage. Some people cant afford to have a race only car. So they have to have a do it all car. If the roll cage surves a purpose go for head.

i think that everyone has personal preferences so whos cares is i have a 115 point cage in my daily driver im driving it your not......who cares if you think its worthless...i know its uncommon but what if a trailer swung off a freeway and there was a cliff....hey it happened to my dad. and he had a rollbar on his truck and the police said that is what saved his life.......

One proven case a rollbar is good for daily driver................I
case proven against..................................zero..

I'm assuming that your dad's rollbar on his truck WAS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE.

Look at the pic further up in the thread -- it looks like it could save you from the roof caving in on a rollover. However, that wouldn't matter since your head would be busted open like a watermellon in the event of a rollover.

Rollcages + lack of helmet =

I have to agree about the rollcages without a helmet. I would feel more safe in a car w/ a seat and harness w/o a roll cage, than a car w/ a seat, hanress + roll cage.
To me personally, I can't imagine the type of impact or any scenario where my car would do a hard rollover, so im just running a seat w/ haress sincei have my SRS anymore.

Actually, the use of a harness WITHOUT a rollcage is extremely dangerous. In the event of a rollover, users of harnesses are often crushed since the harness secures the driver/passenger into a locked upright position. Standard seatbelts for passenger cars are designed to allow the driver/passenger to "collapse" in the event that the roof caves in on them.

You should not be running a harness without a roll bar, you are basically going to be sitting nice and upright when you land on your head

My friend just installed a nice cage in his daily driven M3, I will do the same once I can afford to. I am going to tint my windows so nobody can see it, I am not getting one for LOOKS, I don't see how anyone can call this mod gay. That just goes to show how stupid people can get... when a functional roll cage becomes "gay" So just because I bought a chincy Integra and not an M3 or an AMG E55 I shouldn't try to improve my personal safety?? I'm sure that those cars can withstand impacts far better than my Integra, and you are telling me that a roll cage is gay or would hinder my safety without a helmet? A padded cage that was designed for the street and a harness would be much more beneficial than detrimental to my safety. This thread is gay, not roll cages

The rollcage that the GT2 "comes" with is intended for track use -- it is NOT a standard item that comes on the car.

Taken from Porsche's website:

"For added safety on the racetrack, the 911 GT2 is also available as a Clubsport version featuring a bolt-in roll-over bar which can be upgraded to a full roll cage for competition use. The Clubsport version also includes a six-point racing harness and fire extinguisher with holder. The bucket seats are finished in flame-retardant material instead of leather."

Thats whom I got mine from.

If Porsche was TRULY concerned about the safety of their customers (street), I would think they would decline the sale or option to them.

dude, do you see the person's name I have in my sig? Yeah, she was killed because the car flipped SEVERAL times. No she wasn't wearing her seatbelt , but if she had been wearing a harness w/o a cage, the result would have most likely been the same. Factory seat belt would have saved her life and I suggest you be using the same unless you get some form of rollover prootection.

Don't ever think that your car can't flip over because it sure as hell can. In downtown Jackson MS where I go to school, we have a bunch of 30-mph 1-way streets, and a few weeks ago I looked out the window to see a Cavalier on its roof in the middle of the intersection. I have no idea what happened, but it doesn't take much to flip a car, ESPECIALLY a tiny little Civic or Integra.

i beleive this is a damned if you dont, damned if you do situation.
If you do properly install a roll cage and harness, then if something flying into your front windshield you will not be able to avoid it.
Likewise, if you flip w/o a rollcage and but with a harness your head will be crushed
Or, you could have stock seatbelts, no rollcage, and if you roll your car you will have to let the odds play themselves.
