Default Springs+Retainers

It is wise to mix springs and retainers from differant companies i,e, zex springs and skunk II retainers on a D-16 Y-8?

Stock y8 springs work fine. Spend your money on a good header or IM.

Already got the powercore 4-2-1 header, and the Skunk II intake.

I need new springs because I am fixing to install the comp cams 59300.

What is the seat pressure of the aftermarket springs you are looking at?

I would check the pressure against stock.

Stock Y8 springs work fine for performance applications. They can handle like .550 lift as is.

I was under the impression that you would get valve float around 7.5k on a z6/y8 head with stock springs?

Nope. I have buddies who taken a Z6 to 9200 rpms on stock springs. Taken apart the head the check things and found no problems.

The stock Z6 springs have good pressure and the valves are reasonably light.

It is only a matter of time for your buddies hitting 9200rpm with a D16Z6 crack retainers and blow their motor. I rev'd mine to 8500, and cracked a retainer after 185,000 miles. My motor is toast! Okay, so this is a lot of miles, but it was the weak link after I beefed up my tranny. Why risk it at ~$150?

The springs are another matter. I have never had any problems with valve float with my stock springs.

As I timidly hope to sneak a question in here.....

Are the Y8 and Z6 springs the same and most importantly (to me), will they fit on a D15B7 head?

Other than that, are there any so called OEM performance applications for this somewhat unloved motor?
