My CRX Project
Sit tight folks this is going to be a somewhat long post becuase I have a lot to say:
So it all started back in August of 2002 when I purchased a rolling chassis in the form of a 1990 Honda CRX HF. Wow, what a beauty I must say! There it sat in my driveway until 5 months later when I could afford the engine for it. This came to me through a company in Canton GA named Jarco Inc. They sold me a JDM B16A1 out of a 1990 Honda Integra XSI. As the engine sat in my garage, I thought to myself "Why not pop off the head and see how she looks?" THANK GOD I did this because this engine was in dire need of assistance. The number 4 connecting rod had a serious bend in it, there was heavy amounts of carbon build up, and I found broken glass (I SWEAR IT'S TRUE) in there as well.
In the Garage:
The Bent Rod:
So I took the engine over to Raceworks in Gainseville GA and asked them to rebuild the engine completely to factory specifications (I couldn't afford any new goodies at this point). After about a month I got a call letting me know that everything was ready for me to pick up.
Back at my house I had in the mean time ordered all sorts of required parts in the form of:
Hasport Motor Mounts
Hasport Shift Linkage (This one took 3 tries by Hybrid Garage to send me the right product
)
Action Racing 1KS Clutch
JimFab Custom Front CrossMember
Front and Rear Upper Strut Bars
15" R1 Racing Wheels
Type R Short Shifter
I also had the Flywheel resurfaced and the Transmission looked at by Honda/Acura Specialists.
Everything went in pretty smoothe and I saved up some more funds to buy the many parts I was still lacking. Over the next 3 months I purchased and installed the following:
Corbeau Forza Racing Seats
Schroth Rally-3 Harnesses (One of the few DOT approved Harnesses)
Koni Yellow Adjustable Coilovers
Eibach Red Springs
PowerStop Slotted Rotors Up Front
1990 Integra LS Rear Disc Brake Swap on the Rear
Stainless Steel Brakelines
AEM Cold Air Intake w/ Bypass Valve
DC 4-2-1 Ceramic Headers
Hi-Flow Catalytic Covertor
Toyota Supra Resonator
A Near-Stock Muffler Setup
Yokohma ES100 205/50/15
Motor Mounts:
R-1 Wheels:
Flywheel:
Clutch/Pressure Plate/Bearings
And I think that's about it... So anyways with the help of Raceworks I got all that going in my little buddy and it was like Heaven! The car ran like a f*cking champ and could corner like a real touring champ. Things were going great until I decided to take it out one night for a bit of drifting action. (Now I already messed up my 1989 Ford Festiva[It's fixed now] doing drifts so you would think that I learned my lesson...) So of course I hit a curb busting out some sideways action and bent my front driver side caster and probably a bit of the frame there as well. The car wanted to steer left by itself and had pretty bad toe-out/camber.
This is pretty much where I still stand today, because I can't afford to fix it right now (Education costs) and I'm just praying that nothing else goes wrong with it. I already ruined that beautiful ES100 due to it scraping the chassis under heavy braking.
*SIGH* I love my CRX and I hope to be able to fix it soon... I just wanted to share all of this with you guys and see what your reactions/suggestions for the car are.
Thanks

"I got one of those side moldings for your drivers door, ten bucks and you pay shipping"
Sounds pretty good, Is it for the entire driver side? or just the door? let me know, Thanks!

HAHAHA, yeah an interior would be nice. I have a brand new factory carpet but I'm waiting to put it in... My windows leak right now and I wouldn't want the carpet to get ruined.
I purchased those R-1 Wheels off of the EBAY for like $475 and they weigh about 10.5lbs each!

I doubt you messed up the frame. The front suspension of a crx is pretty weak. A friend of mine did basically the same thing. Not too bad to repair. He had to change...
For lack of a better term the "rack and pinion cross member" $70
Front LCA, spindle and Upper control arm. $75
Alignment $30
Total cost $185
All the parts were bought from a local Honda Dismantler.
Took all of 2 hours to replace it all. (gawd I love air tools).
After he hit the curb the CRX did a 180, he hit it hard. It was so bad his tire was rubbing the back of the fender by the door jam.
Good luck with your CRX.

dang. you have a nice car, but crx's don't drift/slide butt too well. they're too short. you need a beater to do that crap.
Very nice parts choosing, but I've never heard of the clutch before? any info?
