I don't approve of his one-hand-on-the-wheel while shifting into 1st.

I agree. His lines are quite good in my opinion, but the whole 1 handed thing is a bit un-nerving. And he wants to be a road racer?

The S2000 discussion is here, and yes, Jason comments about his one handed efforts:

"3. Took hand off wheel as I was thinking of shifting back to first in the right hand turnaround after the slalom. Not as much of a mistake as it is good comedy."

i like jason's first comment about turning at the wrong cone for the first 180* left hander. all he says is he turned in at the wrong time. now, was that late, or early? from watching the video it looked like he was squaring off the exit by turning in too late, but that's just my guess.

I just figured out what I've been doing wrong in Auto-x. I haven't been driving to the absolute absurd limits. No seriously that guy while under control was driving to extreme limits. And that's what I've determind to be best in auto-x.

if you truly think that, then you still haven't figured it out. true, you have to drive at the limit, but driving at the limit in and of itself isn't how you go fast in autocross.

I try to remind myself it's sometimes more important to carry momentum than to carry speed. Of course, that's sometimes forgotten in my moments of ham-fistedness.

Actually.. the secret is just that.. a secret. (It's something found within you, and nothing else external.)

So what secrets do you have so that you won STX? BTW, nice meeting you, KC! How did you like the ice bath?

Hehe...I've already done it once. It was back in August in SD region.

I ran GS with the crappy Michelin all-season tires. The car is so heavy. My frist run out, I left the VSA on. At the start line, I revved up to about 3500 rpm and dropped the clutch. There was some wheel spin, but once the computer picked up the wheel spin, it shut some of the power down, and the car bogged a little. Around the turns, the inside wheel would spin on hard acceleration out of the corners, but once again, when the computer detected wheel spin, it shut some of the power down (could be the brake was applied, I have to study the service manual to see how the system works). The car was pretty stable through slaloms. The brake was pretty good, but I could use better brake to get into the corners deeper.

In my 2nd and last runs, I switched off the VSA. Off the line, the wheels just kept spinning. I had to modulate the throttle to reduce wheel spin to get some traction. Around the turns, there wasn't any assist, so the inside wheel would just spin. But because the computer would not shut down the power, I can control the wheel spin myself with the throttle. It was somewhat stable through slaloms, but I noticed that if I went deeper into the first slalom cone, then braked hard and turned at approx. the same time, the rear stepped out just a tad.

The steering was good, but because the stock Michelins weren't up to par, the steering was slightly slower in responsiveness to my steering input. The steering effort was good, not feel heavy in fast transitions. In my Prelude, the steering gets very heavy in fast transitions.

Anyway, I finished 9th out of 16. My best time was about 3 seconds slower than the fastest GS car which was a CRX Si on r-tires. If I had r-tires on the TSX, I might be able to finish in the top 5 (or even top 3).

Oh...sorry for the OT!
