DOHC ZC vs Pa emissions
This is my first post and I have a question about emissions and a DOHC ZC motor. I Just bought a 91 crx hf with a with a DOHC ZC and a teg computer. The question is can I get the motor to pass the Pa emissions, and if so how do I get it done. My friend said that it can not be done because a jdm motor will not pass the emissions, but I have heard form other people that that it can. any answers would be helpful.
At least 3 years running, passed PA emissions with JDM DOHC ZC and 89 teg ecu. AAlthough last year I had a problem with a bad O2 causing it to run way rich but other than that I've had no problems. This is with the typical I,H,E,bored TB and adj. fpr.
hello... look if you wish to pass your emissions.. just get an afc.. you dont need the v tec control zc is non v tec as u already know.. if you lean out your a little you will pass everytime.. if you dont have the means to buy an afc borrow one.. i have a b16a in a 91 hatch si.. its a mess right now but shes alive..
expensive ..a little.. but its nice to pass everytime.. not to mention.. an ecu isnt much less..

I'm not sure where your from in PA but if you were willing to drive down to where I live I could get you the hook up on the situation if you want. I'm going home this weekend also.

It should pass the sniffer easily as long as you have a good cat and it's running properly (i.e. not idling like a V8 like some other people's swapped EFs are).
Then again, my '93 Civic didn't pass on Matta's sniffer, and that was the stock engine.
Tell Josh to run your car on the sniffer.

Mine passed in VA and they put it on a chassis Dyno at various speeds, much harder to pass than sitting there with the car under no load. Just do a tune up, replace the CAT if it has over 100,000 miles make sure filters are good etc, and it should pass. Easier with a PM6 I gues than a PG7 that one is likely to get you high on hydrocarbon emissions.
I just recently passed VA Emissions with Flying colors with my ZC.....Running 10.6:1 Compression, Ported/Polished Head, Timing Advanced about 16 Degrees.......DC Sports 4-2-1 Header, Stock Cat(Recently Replaced), 2.25" Exhaust Piping to an ES Oval........Running an 89 Teg ECU.

I was easily with in all the Specs......ZCs will pass Emissions just fine I dont see why everyone worries so much....Long as your Cat is in good shape you will pass No problem.

I was just informed why it wouldn't pass, Josh told me that to pass the car must be equipped with all of its original emissions equipment. Which means that since your car is an HF it would have to be equipped with an EGR valve, which the ZC engine does not have. However for emissions inspection if you just take it somewhere where they would have no idea that the car was originally equipped with an EGR valve (i.e. a non-Honda shop) then it would pass with no problem (unless it fails the sniffer of course).
Just letting everyone else here on H-T know what the reason is behind this.
