Type R ECU in GSR Trouble
My friend purchased a 1997 P73 Type R ECU for his 1997 GSR, we swapped the ECU's and a little while after driving the car, the Check Engine Light comes on, so we pull the code and it pulls code 45 (System Running Too Rich or Too Lean) does anyone have an idea why its running too rich or too lean, and how to fix this? any help would be great thanks
kinda a noobie reply but wouldn't there be a problem because the gsr's 2ndary butterflies don't open......since the type-r ecu wouldn't have one?
just guessing here

I have a US ITR ECU in my JDM R engine and I'm throwing the same code. I can't figure it out. I've changed the o2, MAP sensor, fuel filter, valve adj was done a couple months ago, running stock FPR... I'm stumped!! I'm trying to lean it out a bit with my VAFC but I don't want to mess with it too much without jumping on a dyno like I need to do (but am too broke to do).
Any ideas for both of us?

did you switch your VTEC solenoid to a USDM solenoid? Just wondering because the JDM engine has the VTEC pressure switch built into the ECU w/ no separate plug on the solenoid from the pressure switch. To run a USDM ECU you have to use the USDM VTEC solenoid. Are you throwing any VTEC trouble codes?

i have a 98 gs-r with my friend ITR ecu...still dont know if i should get them..did u guys feel the difference at all?..i did a little bit on a top end..and gained a little low end but then again still hard to tell because i havent tried the dyno yet... i did not have any cel at all "knock on wood", i guess because of my ITR cams and skunk manifold...i just plug them in and reset the ecu...thats all i did..oh yah i checked the timing and suprise that it was on stock timing, so didnt have to do anything at all...
This is probably a really stupid idea but... could you take off the vacum line that opens the butterflies, so that it is always open????

Pat, I switched the solenoid to the USDM one. No VTEC codes were thrown. I did have secondary o2 sensor codes before but those were fixed. I did swap out my primary o2 with a new NGK/NTK sensor but the code 45 in Helms says to check the primary o2. So I swapped back the old sensor tonight. Maybe the NGK one is bad but I have no idea how to check that. I thought the oe one was bad, maybe it wasn't. I guess we'll see.
Still stumped. (and thanks for the help Pat!)
