Misshift in RSX?
Have you misshited before (damage or not)? In particular from 5th -> 6th but went into 4th instead?
I have heard of alot mis-shifting stories about the RSX and wonder if it's the design of the gearbox or driver's fault...

I have done the 4-2 shift a few times myself, but have never released the clutch enough to rev it up any higher than normal...........you can feel it when it happens
I would say there is some sort of design flaw, but a little bit of common sense and observation can prevent anything from going wrong

I personally don't know how you're going to "misshift" from 5th accidentally down to fourth. I mean technically yeah its a "misshift" but I'd rather not refer to it as such. I consider a real misshift when your at the top of a gear, high revs, lets say 3rd gear and shift to second gear instead of fourth gear. You'd have to be going quite fast, like faster than the car is capable of, in fifth to be able to misshift into fourth. But thats besides the point.
What has happened to me in my girlfriends RSX-S is what ^he said, the fifth gear to second instead of fourth misshift. But like him I only lightly let out the clutch slightly before noticing the RPM's were flying way too fast towards 8k to have actually been in fourth.
Hope that helps some. don't believe its a flaw in the car or tranny. The gates to the gears are very close together and people are getting driving it hard b4 learning the gates. Have you ever driven a real sports car? See how close the gates are in them, and people sometimes misshift. Thats why dealers offer driving classes for exotics so inexperienced peeps can learn b4 they go and overrev their new $150k car.

ive done a few 5th to 4th instead of going into 6th gear quite a few times..and so has my father..im not sure why...it could be the seating position or maybe the gear box is at an angle..i have no clue...and this was slow shifting..not like if i were to be racing...

for me going from 2nd to 3rd is getting a lil bit trickier. i cant do it as fast any more because the stick wont go all the way in. it seems to get caught on something. im thinking about taking it in to get checked out.

it kinda like hits a notch and it wont shift in all the way. so it will fall back into neutral

^ I don't understand how you can state "i don't see how you can misshift in the RSX even with close gates...
"
Any car that is stickshift, can be misshifted. And yes misshifting IS driver error. A car itself, nor the engine or tranny misshifts. Its the driver. A tranny me have bad synchros or 'close gates' but its always driver error.
Explain your point further please.

very true. we have all seen the horrors of a mis shifted DC5 or EP3 for that matter. just becareful when you shift.

i can say it because if you shift properly you won't misshift....too many people think you have to grip the **** like a baseball bat and throw it into gear...even power shifting doesn't require that

I have two friends with rsx's one has a 2003 and he mis shifted on the fwy from 4th instead of 5th to 3rd hahaha I know but his engine blew up I think he said it reved passed 9000 my other friend has a 2002 and he's reved his passed 9000 going from 3rd instead of 4th to 2nd and his car seems fine
btw the guys engine that blew up was replaced and covered by warantee but he had to pay labor which was about $3000 or so

I have the problem with the car going into 3rd gear also. It does seem to get caught on something. I was thinking about taking it into acura but i know all they will do is say, "Could not duplicate problem". Or an even dumber response on there part could be "Your intake is too close to the shift linkage, that is causing the problem"
Like that wasnt the first thing i looked at after i started having the problem. If it gets worse, then i will take it to acura. If not, its livable for now.
