What he said.....plus think about aftermarket support. If you are the type of person that likes to modify but don't have the baller status of Donald Trump, I would go with the R6.

I remember a magazine did a test with all the current 600s and they through in the Ducati 749 (maybe 748). The ducati came in dead last performance wise. Even the Honda F4i beat it. So if you are looking for performance, the R6 would be the better choice. IF you just want the Ducati, then get it. Of course I would go with the Honda 600RR, but that is only because I have one

So very true. A ducati isn't about getting the fastest bike or the most reliable or anything. Going on stats alone any japanese bike is far better for way less money. A Ducati is much more work (6K mi valve adjustments, 12Kmi belt replaacements) to keep running, but if you do it yourself it's a great 'bonding' experiance.
You buy a ducati because it has a soul that you can't get from a japanese machine.
if you don't get butterflies in your stomach while looking at the 748, take the r6

Yup, if you gotta ask, go R6. They are in the same price range, since it's used vs. new.
Ducati is just a status symbol really. The 03 R6 will take the turns better, and out accelerate a 748. And have you ever sat on a 748?? I get uncomfy after a measily 30min ride.

A duck would be a better track bike, and then they are still way low on power, but the R6 is a better all round bike and requires less mainance and part are much cheaper and easier to get. Have you rode a duck before the ergonomics suck from normal riding.
2 thumps up from the R6.
two down for the duck

never been on a ducati! thats why i was asking u guys... thanks for all the replies.. the power isnt all that important to me cause i just wanna ride around town and every now and then hit the twistys! so i think im leaning more towards the r6 but damn the ducati looks good! so lets so if maintenance wasnt a issue cause id only ride bout 3000 miles a year, power wasnt an issue..what would u guys go for?

disagree...but i can see where you are coming from, and yes the maintance is a lil high but if you take care of your bike, when you take it for the maintance there is usually nothing you have to get done to it...
Good friend owns a couple and his gf is head tech at the Ducati dealership here in town...

If this is the case then why not test ride both bikes and pick which ever one you feel most comfortable with/on. I would take the R6 over the Duc 748 any day of the week, as I have had the oppertunity to ride a 748 and was not impressed with the bike for the price. And IMO all the Duc has over the R6 is that cloud 9 factor.

I have ridden a duc and they are fun to ride(as is with any bike i ride). My only problem is after about 10 min it feels like your riding a wooden plank. The seat does the rider no justice on those bikes. But then again you can always swap them out for the gel version.Go buy a duc dealer and sit on one and see if you like it.If you do then get it but more than likely you will consider it a pain in the ***.
