yokohama es100 or kumho ecsta 711
i'm debating on getting either yoko es100s in 195/50r15 or the kumho ecsta 711s in 205/50r15 for the Ls mesh rims i just picked up. which of the two would be a better purchase since both are different widths? price difference on the 2 is 10 bucks(yoko>kumho)
oh yea forgot to mention..theres already a 95% 195/50 es100 on one of the wheels already.

Yokos hands down. I have the 711s and they're ALRIGHT....but when I drove my friend's GTS with the ES100's, they handled sooo much better. BTW, get 205/15/50 in which ever tire you choose.
ok i just searched thru the archives and found hella posts of es100 vs. ecsta supras. Im goin with the YOKOs.
but i have another question... i have 1 used - almost brand es100 on one of the LS's. will it be safe to just buy another 3? will it affect my alignment any?

well because i have 1 almost new 195/50 on there already, i was just thinking about ordering another 3. (also because the 205/50 cost much more). but do you guys think its really worth it??

I have the Yoks and I was pretty disappointed with them at the autocross. Maybe because I had the Azenis before...
They are great for street driving though. Good grip, good in the rain and fairly quiet on the road. They wear slowly, too.

They wore pretty fast (15,000 miles), but they have tremendous grip. Super stiff sidewalls, even with the 195/60/14 version I had. They were loud on the highway and they didn't handle water to well. Very good tires with a few compromises. Great if you live in a place that doesn't have weather other than sun.
I used these during the fall/winter/spring, and let me tell you, they don't handle the snow worth a ****!

Those are two totally different tires in classification.
The ES100s are a high performance tire and the Ecsta 711s are just a good all around tire with "performance" characteristics. They cannot be compared together.
The ES100s will wear out 100 X faster than the 711s and provide more grip.
However, the 711s provide the most long term tread wear on a good tire with moderate grip.

es 100 wear isnt that bad, when you consider they other tires in their class. 711's and es100 arent really in the same class. 712's and es100's are much more comparible. If your looking for cheap, go with the 711's and if you want better performance go with the es 100's.

You're gonna buy 3 in an off size just because you have 1 already?
That makes little sense to me. I'd get 4 tires in a desirable size, either 195/55-15, which are probably still out of stock, or the 205/50-15.
BTW, why do you have one tire different from the other 3? I always replace tires per axle, unless they don't have much wear and are the same brand and model and, more importantly, size.

I would definetly go with the Yokohamas(like you already said) But I would go ahead and get 4 tires instead of just the 3. I am pretty sure there will be some alignment issues eventually

no... i already have one 195/50 15 on one of the rims already w/ 95%+ tread. i was figuring that i would buy 3 of the same yokos to match that one. but if there is possible alignment problems due to the used tire..i'll just buy a set of four.

Exactly my point - why buy 3 more of the oddball 195/50-15s?

i'm sorry to say but those comparisons are rating the yoko's vs the ecsta 712's. totally different tire. that tire does suck but eh 711 has been my hands down favorite tire. it is great in the rain, no outstanding and provides excellent traction for auto cross and soloII trial events
but tha's just an opinion and you are entitled to choose what you want. i say go for hte cheaper of the two and save your money for lightweight rims

es 100's are cheep I got my 205/50/15 on tirerack for 70ish each. They work great I would not use them on autox, I use Yoko a008r race rubbers. But the es100's are sweet street tires. I would def go with the 205's on street to they fit the wheels perfect.

oh i see what you mean. it does look real real small on that LS rim when i tried it on the car today. the 205 fills the gap real good and i assume handles real well.

i got my es100s last september in the the beginning and i am a pretty aggressive driver....ask anyone who knows me. they are still ok....but i think i'm gonna need new tires in about a month or two.
what do you guys think i should do for new tires??.....get another set of es100s or the azenis? it is like $84 for the es100s and about $60 for the azenis.....and winter is comming up.
