What is a downpipe?
Can anyone explain to me what a downpipe is. I know this is a stupid question. For some reason (some one told me ) and this still maybe the right answer, just double checking, that the downpipe is the part of the air intake that goes down and out to make it a cold air intake.
Thanks

I believe what is traditionally reffered to as the down pipe is on the exhaust side of the engine. We usually call the whole thing a header. The top part (on a Honda 4 banger, the 4 into 2 part) is the exhaust manifold. The next part (the 2 into 1 part that then goes under the engine to the cat) is the down pipe. I think.
Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.
(OF course there is a 4 into 1 header, but them things is one piece)

Well at least Spoon Sports agrees with me.

i wasn't disagreeing with you, most times the lower 1/2 of the exhaust manifold is refered to as the -A- pipe.so that is probably what the question was more aimed at.

Actually, a downpipe is part of an exhaust sytem for turbo cars. It connects the cat to the turbo.
