Default 82mm Pistons On B18C?

Possible without sleeving? Would high compression (12.5-13:1) be detrimental on 82mm bores? Hypothetically speaking...

Sure it's possible. That high compression is debateable. Let us know how it turns out. I've known no problems on 82mm stock sleeved 11.5:1 compression GSR. 12.5-13:1 no expierience with.

your talking about boring stock sleaves from 81mm to 82mm? Without boost or nitrous that should be fine... it's weaker so you should think of purchasing a block guard. But then you might run into cooling problems...

Anyone got experience with block guards on an NA setup?

not worth it IMO. just make sure everything is balanced and you'll be fine.

Waste of money. Block guards are positioned where you don't need them.

So it is "possible"??? The reason I ask is that I got JE 81.5mm pistons, and the shop bored my motor .30 over instead of .20. No one makes a shelf piston that is 81.75mm, so I'm forced to either have JE make me a custom set, or go 82mm. And I'm not planning on boosting, and I'm selling my Zex kit, so I'm really only concerned agbout the high comp.

I'm really not liking my options right now... I've been without the car since Easter, and was REALLY hoping to have everything back together before the snow flies... Now I learn that there's yet another setback, and I'm really bummed...

Any words of encouragement??? Would be MUCHLY appreciated.. :-/

i think you mean 0.030 and 0.020. not 0.30 and 0.20. i would email/call AN-R ( http://an-r.com/internals/pistons.html) and ask them if they use their 82mm hi-comp pistons without new sleeves and if they suggest it.

btw, i had a 82mm setup on my b18c, but i was sleeved. it's nice to know those silly ls/vtec's dont have more displacement then you

I think you'll be ok at 82mm. Just make certain you're not seeing any detonation.

82mm is the largest you can go on stock sleeves (NA). Otherwise you are pushing it. Make sure its tuned correctly and you should be OK.

Just what I wanted to hear.. Now I've just gotta decide what pistons to go with.. Wiseco makes shelf 82mm pistons, but I'd really like to go with JE or CP.. But I don't see 82mm listed on either of their sites, and I really don't want to wait for custom pistons..

you might haave headgasket issues at a higher than 12:1 compression on 82mm cylinders... but who knows?!

I've actually been thinking about the headgasket.. If I have bigger cylinders, that means I'll need to enlarge the holes in the head gasket, correct? That will mean less gasket to seal, and therefore, the whole thing will be weaker... Not a good plan.. If it makes a difference, I'll be running a Mugen headgasket...

You are going to have to use a 82mm gasket (Cometic). I would also use some copper gasket sealer as well just to make sure its a good seal.

Nothing wrong with Wiseco pistons. Stock head gasket is fine as well.
