Difference between Hatch and CRX
What are the differences between a CRX Si and a hatch si?
I know the body is different and the CRX has no back seat, but anything else? I always hear how great a handling car the CRX is but is it that much different than a hatch?
I ask because it seems hatches are easier to find that CRX's.

i have a 91 si hatch and i love it.. there are a few differences..
1)the crx is heavier i believe due to back window in crx..
2)crx seats dont bolt in the hatches.. i found out the hard way.
you can get more in the hatch.. i just moved from va to pa.. and when the seats are down i have got full swaps in and out easily..with a cherry picker.
3) you get rear disc with the rex
other than that.. they are alike..you can get a rear seat for the rex.. mugen makes one.. its sweet
i have a b16a in my hatch..man if you build the head correctly and proper fuel
nos is a wonderful thing.. its hard to turbo the b16.. its just a hard set up to tune.
with head work..ported/polish multi angle valve job, cams, valves, springs, retainers
vafc to tune fuel curve and v tec correctly, fuel pump, injectors and a nos express
kit jetted for 75 shot.. with lsd and decent tread.. 12.40 to 12.70's arnt bad!
As far as handling.. i have kyb adjustable shocks with eibach sportlines..and he eibach anti roll kit.. with a set of 00 dx wheels..split 5 stars 14's.. my cars on rails..lol if u get a hatch.. get si only!!!!!
good luck in your choice..

If I did get a hatch or CRX, it would be a 2nd car (I have 2 now, just gotta sell one). It would not be a daily driver, more of a project car that I would build for auto-x and maybe someday track.
Do some more research before you decision. CRX STD is lighter than a Hatch. Hatch has more room not a hard one there. Not all CRX's come with rear disc. If you are going to race talk to someone in that league and find out what they have. When it come to racing a car you are going to gut it anyways so take what ever body style you like.

Uh yeahhhhh, I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you on this one.
The hatchback is heavier. If you look at the hatch, it actually has a longer wheelbase than the CRX. My 88 std hatch is only about 40 lbs lighter than my brother's 88 si. Also, if you're going to get a hatch STAY AWAY from Si's... too damn heavy. I love my 88 std... 2005 lbs with a gutted interior and a B16A swap.

The only thing is I wanted the Si engine so I could compete in the stock classes. That way I could learn to race at a better level and be somewhat competitive than if I had a Hf or Std and got a swap.
I would like to get a swap someday possibly, but I really wanted to start out with the D16A6 without having to swap it in.
Most likely the weight differences between the HF and Si would be found in Sunroof, sound deadening, and engine differences and most of these could be shed if I ever did build a full-out racecar.

I thought it might be longer, but I wasn't positive. Is this part of the reason the CRX is considered such a good handling car?

No... not so much as the suspension Geometry and setup. The Civic has the exact same components, but it's center of gravity is slightly different. I'd say the handling is just about the same as the CRX. The 88 HF CRX actually has the same rear suspension setup that's used on the Type-R cars. Not bad... but just a little "squirrely".
