Default Just got a header install, Oil Problems

I just got my header installed at a local shop today. The thing is after he was done he said i needed one quart of oil. But the thing is i changed my oil last week. I then went to the nearest Autozone to purchase one quart of Castrol 10w30 oil. Then i went home to check my dipstick again to make sure, that **** was ******* like dry. I needed more then just one quart, so i'm thinkin did he **** up somewhere? Also, after he installed my header, my car was smokin a bit but he said that's normal. So can anyone comment on what went wrong or what HE did wrong?

oil filter tight? did you replace the washer on the drain plug? is the drain plug tight? maybe it's just a coincidence and your rings are worn.

Well when I did the oil on my car it has a big leak. The washer on the drain bolt actually had a groove worn around the whole thing from being toqrued to tight. I didn't have time to fix it right away but I lost about 2 quarts over a period of about a week. Drained it again, put high temp silicon seal on the washer and teflon tape around the threads. Leaks about 1 drop every couple of days.

And more towards your issue maybe the oil wasn't properly changed. Could be the same leak I had, maybe a leak from your oil filter. Perhaps the seals on the filter are bad, not properly installed or it wasn't tightened enough. Also could be you're burning oil somewhere in the engine. If you are emitting smoke from your exhaust that could be a big possibility.

Check your spark plugs for oil. What color is the smoke?

You can try checking the crankshaft seals and where the tranny connects to the block. Can you tell where the leak may be coming from? If it isn't puddling on the ground anywhere and you don't see oil dripping it is probably being burned giving you that white smoke.

Hey WhitEdRift,

Did I understand your post correctly - you reused your drain bolt washer? These are 'crush' washers, are are meant to be replaced after each use. They are made of a softer material so that they form a metal seal when torqued down, hence you get that groove. Please don't take this as a flame - just trying to help out.
