new updated pics of my 89 si STS car
Well here is the update on my car. new parts list:
1) IEN $35 ebay cold air intake
2) $45 exhaust home-made
3) 350/450 spring rates
4) Kyb Agx shocks
5) crx hf front sway bar
6) ST 22mm rear sway bar
7) currently 2.6/1.9 camber
8) ebay $60 momo steering wheel
9) new 15x7 cheap wheels comming friday
10) hawk hp+ front pads
Only weight removed from the car so far has been AC(50lb weighted), exhuast(20LB), new system is 9lb. and whatever weight from the intake. The car was weighted last weekend without the suspension and was at 2080. I still have weight that can be removed when the headers go on and possibly if I replace the seats.
It took us til 1 AM saturday night to get the suspension on and ready to race yesterday.
Here is our initial guess on ride height before we got to put the car back on the ground. Enough camber? Also notice the front wheels. Thats brake dust from 5 days of driving the car.
The final result. The car might come down eventually some more after some more testing. I still want more camber in the front.
Here is my friend driving it in time only in the afternoon. Didn't get any pics with me driving it.

So how did you do in STS? Was that time only runs you did in the afternoon, because I didn’t catch the rest of the STS guys running. Either way, you ran some good times. So coming from your heavier Civic, is it more fun having less weight now?
Good luck with the car.
Good luck with the car.
I wouldn't go that low, I'm not sure you will have enough shock travel with your current suspension setup. Get a camber kit if you want more negative camber in the front. Other than that it looks good! Good luck!
it really isn't that low at all and I have plenty of suspension travel to go lower.
I ran a 46.9 as my fastest clean run while running in STS. After walking the course in the afternoon I noticed the lines I was taking were in rocks and dirt which explained why I felt like I had no grip. I decided to run time only again and ran a 45.2 while the fastest STS car other than that was a 46.7 i think.
This was only the first time driving it with the suspension on it too. Its a lot more fun running with less weight alex.

Emmitt~ You are killin' me! In fact, I've been thinking the same thing. We've been spoiled by Joel who would have the results sent out by midnight on Sunday.
Once again, the Atlanta region enjoys some really good STS competition. Fortunately, the autocross Gods were smiling upon me yesterday in my first place finish. But it could have been much different. My best time of 36.6 was only a tenth faster than Emmitt, who was a tenth faster than Ryan (if I'm not mistaken). Ryan's 1st run was the fastest in our run group, but it was dirty -- Ryan that's what you get for trying to shorten the course.... cheater!
And I suspect once Ryan gets the new kar sorted out, I'll be judging my performance on how close I can get to his times...
Ryan, nice car; you and it will be much faster come the next event. I have no doubt.
Emmitt, great driving yesterday. Keep up the good work. I was seriously demoralized yesterday after my first run of 38.5; many folks layed down faster times. The fact that I improved nearly 2 full secs. is still surprising to me... but I'm not complaining.
Casey, who still loves his GSR 4-door, even though it's one of the biggest, heaviest cars in our regional STS class....

I know you're doing this on a budget, but at places like Forbes Field and Peru, IN you'll start to come to the limitations of the KYB setup. More grip + bumps = ownage of the shocks.
And yeah, the car needs to be on the ground and lower than you have it.
2080 as it sits isn't too bad--you'll probably be around 2060 when you're done. My "heavier" 91 Si is sitting around 2100lbs.

the car i drove this year at peru was on kyb's. thats what convinced me to go with them again. I have complete confidence in them right now. But as you said i might see some ownage of them. I am on a very very limited budget though so I'm going to work with what little I have to build my car as fast as I can nationally.

I have no idea. It didn't say the muffler was directional. It is very very loud inside the car though. I'm going to be buying earplugs soon for the drive to and from the events.

lol earplugs for the drive there!
i'm thinking of doing the same exhaust, except the glasspack will be where the muffler currently is....my car is a daily driver, and i don't feel like sportin' ear plugs every time i drive some place!

It sounds like my car is set up totally *** backwards from yours - does your setup make your car plow a lot, or do you find that the car handles really good?
Also, i totally blew out all four kyb's the first event this year and had to switch to another brand. I went with the tokico illumina's and have had much better handling with them. And I got them for a couple bucks cheaper a piece than the kyb's.
Oh, and is the hf bar smaller than the si? I thought it was. It also looks like you are almost picking up your rear tire in one of those pics - is that because of the setup?

the setup is good so far. I still need to do a lot of testing with it. I already know that I need more rear bar so I'm going to adjust the rear sway bar to full stiff. I found about what tire pressures to use already. On kumho mx's I am using 34/26 with no rollover and even temps all the way across.
the hf bar is slighly smaller than the si bar but i've been told it is hollow. I know it weighted a lot less just by what it felt like. I got it for free just by trading my si bar for it.

Looking good Ryan.
May I suggest a lightweight battery when you get a bit of extra cash.

You should have seen Heyward's battery in Kansas....only good for about 5 starts without putting a trickle charger on.
