its starting to peel and it feels sticky in the morning dew and getting my hands all black. is there a simple way to take it off? or do i have to cut the stitching all the way around?

if you dont want to cut the stitching, you can unstitch it.

You could also very carefully cut the leather with a razor blade or something.

 

if its peeling and coming off on your hands then you prolly want to just throw it away anyways right?

just use a razor or pointy scissors to cut the stitches

 

yeah after spending about 20min unthreading it and burning my fingertips of pulling the thread out......i said screw it, snip snip snip

seriously, i think the girl that i bought the car from had that installed the day the car was brand new (10 years ago!) and left it on ever since then.
