Default JDM Type R queston

I tried a search so no yelling. What would be the lowest octane usable for a JDM type R engine in stock condition.

87 octane will work...but you should always use the highest you can get to avoid detonation

I thought it was completely useless if it was like 87 rated and you put 91 in..?

I've always pour at least 91 octane at 11:1. For your investment on the ITR motor, I wouldn't even bother with going any lower than that. 91 octane compared to 100 is like pump pissed.

You might be about to get away with 87 but for sure 91 or 92 is no problem. There is a guy running 12.3 on pump gas (93)

If your car is recommended Premium ONLY then stick with it to be safe.
if you run low compression and NA then it is pointless to use higher octane. Use the minimum grade that your car will take without detonating and you will save $$$

In Japan they use 100RON which I understand to be the equal to 96-98 octane that we use in America. The JDM Type R engine is a higher compression with a more advanced timing map which could cause it to ping on 91-93 octane. Does anyone here have a JDM Type R engine with a JDM type r computer? What octane are you running and do you have any detonation problems?

My car is JDM ITR 96 spec. I only run high octane 98 ron. Wouldnt dare go any lower. Best to use high octane to avoid detonation on high compression engine. No point spending $$$ to install an engine only to put it at risk with lower octane fuel. Save the heartache and go with the highest octane fuel u can.

Just my 0.2Cents

Good lUCk

i run 91 octane. i got a jdm itr with jdm ecu. no pings and i've had it for 10 months. still runs like a champ. if u want, use toluene to increase octane rating. much better than those octane booster crap.

you can run any octane you want...pump gas offerings...(87+).
your motor will adjust the for the lack of octane, but is it really worth it? why skimp out if your going to shell for a motor..

In the Australian ITR we get the JDM compression but not as an advanced timing map. The owners manual recommends 95, but since new ive only ever used 98. I want to get it tuned to 98 ron to squeeze a little more power outta her, rather than 95 ron which is where its tuned from the factory.

I believe Japs computer is tuned for a higher octane level still. About 100+ron

I've been running a JDM 96 specR with the JDM ecu for several years (I have put around 50K on this motor). I have always ran 91 octane and base on our gas prices in CA, it's just too much to pour 96+ octane for everyday driving. The 91 octane works fine and I have never experience detonation or pinging problems.

I've been running the highest octane available here (91) for a while now, car runs fine. (99 jdm b18c (r spec) ) If there was a higher pump octane available, I would get it, but I guess 91 is the best I can do for now.

I have an Intergra R running 7psi daily, 12psi occasionaly ( abit more when on the dyno)..as I mentioned, I do 96-100 ocatanes. The knock meter on my PFC reads about 10-30....hard boosting, I can get up to 35-45...the manual and my tuner says anything below 60 is normal.
