Does anybody agree with what this guy has to say about an LS-VTEC setup?
I was looking around about the LS-VTEC frankenstein setup until I came across this...

I agree with him but to an extent. I believe a motor with a better RS ratio will be more reliable but it's not the only or most important factor.
You are perfectly capable of building a reliable LS/VTEC but something like a B16 will always be more reliable. Also, on the same token it will be slower..
In a way it's like comparing Domestic V8s to 4cyl high revving imports. The V8 will always be capable of making more power and will usually fall apart too.

One of the many reasons why I don't LS/Vtec's or CRVtecs.

he says that the B20z has a slight larger bore than the B18 which is bad which he wouldn't state.....so my question is why is it so bad?

bigger bore = slightly larger and thus heavier pistons. ehh, everybody has opinion on it. He is just against it.

Sheesh......how many have seen a D16 in high RPMs? They don't blow, unless mistreated.
FYI D16Y8: R/S: 1.52:1 and no oil squirters.

No, bigger bore = thinner cylinder walls. B20s have weak sleeves when compared to other B blocks.

I've always contended that if the LS/VTEC was such a great idea then Honda would have simply given us the 1834cc LS block with all the VTEC trimmings.
Think of it this way:
Why would Honda retool and spend millions of dollars (probably more) on R&D and remanufature of a completely different 1797cc longblock when they already had the 1834cc block in production?
The 1834cc block had already been out for years when they decided to make a 1.8L VTEC engine, so if the 1834cc block was good enough why didn't they use it?
The 1797cc block is better for long term and doesn't sacrifice much power, if any really.

The main draw for the LS/VTEC to so many people are guys with LS swaps or Integra LSs trying to get a cheap VTEC swap, and it usually ends up being shittier than any stock B18C1 engine.

They usually end up costing more if done the way they need to be and then reliability is still an issue.

He makes some good points, but he doesn't let you know all the facts. We all know there are advantages and disadvantages of the motor.

I think his point was that there are more negatives (too him) then positives.

He make s alot of scence, however i see the next generation/trend in swaps to be the K series, from what i understand so far the power and potential of thease motors is huge!..though expencive

Once they iron out the wiring aspect (mount kits are close being made available if they aren't already) then I fully expect to see more RSX motors in 5th/6th gen civis and 3rd gen tegs.
I like what he said about the b16. Thats why I stuck with the built b16 turbo. The turbo will make up for the lack of power and torque and it will last longer.
i do not agree. if done incorrectly they can be pieces of ****. but done correctly they can be awesome motors. and the price comparison, mine cost less than 2000 dollars total. as compared to a gsr for at least 3000 or a type r for 4500. but im just saying.

How long have you had yours for?
I've had my ITR swap now for over 3 years and it has seen auto-X, 30 passes at the strip, and has been daily driven and it has given me zero problems and does not smoke one bit.
I got the engine at 36K miles and it's probably at 50 by now, but it's running strong as ever.
I'm not saying that LS/VTECs cannot make good power, but I'd never feel as confident holding them at higher rpm like I do a stock B18C1/5.

so what about mini me swaps. That is basically the same thing just with out the extra cam? dose the sameR/S theory apply?
