Default What to do with Kumho's during winter.

This was my first year with real autocross tires, Kumho Ecsta V700's

My question is what to do with them during a Minnesota winter where it will get 20deg below zero. Is there any bad effects if I leave them in an unheated garage, or should they be kept in my heated house?

It helps to unwrap them and talk dirty to them once in a while too. They get lonely over the long winter you know.

Kumho recommends that their tires be sent to Arizona during Minnesota winters, for safe keeping.

travis, who has room and is always willing to help.

How do you know if an R compound tire has "croaked"?

It doesn't stick... and then the car snap spins so fast you'll think you were just hit by LaVar Arrington.

Nope, but I did have to use reverse.

And there were some suspicious barrel marks along the passenger side...

Personally I'd say spinning faster than a Hurricane, but well... to each their own.

The day I found out my Victoracers had croaked was the only day I got out of my Integra cursing because it was so loose, and also I think the only day I've spun twice in one run. I believe I was WOT both times too, trying to save it...

Most race tire companies will also tell you not to let the tire get below freezing or they can deteriorate too. Definatley the garbage bag treatment to keep them from UV exposure and keep them in a cool place but if freexing is a possibility you might keep looking. They always say that a cave is the best place: cools, dark, humid and not frozen.
