Default Is this a dizzy problem?

Heres the problem

I have a 91 DX hatch. Usually I have my ZC in it, but right now Im running a SOHC d16a6 (91 usdm Si). I have the feeling my distributor has taken a dump.

Here is the issue thats scaring me the most. The RPM gauge is now jumping all over the place. Its seems to do it for a while until it gets warmed up then, somtimes it stops, somtimes it just does it less. The motor isnt acually chaging RPMS, just the needle is jumping like crazy. I have been told this is a sign that the dristubutor is done. My question, is it acually done and I need a whole new one, or is the somthing else I can check before I spend the money on a new distributor?

Thanks.

It doesnt sound like a dist problem... check connections to the gauge if the motor isnt changing rpms...
