who's done a integra with a h22a Type S
ok right now i have a civic with a jdm b18c but it's time to move on. I'm in the military so i do a lot of traveling. I need a car that's comfortable and realiable but still fast. I was thinking about getting a GSR with the black leather and the sunroof and all those good things but then buy a h22a type s and rebuild it to zero miles and just port the head and put new spring and retainers then putting that in the integra with a mugen header and exhaust with V-AFC, intake and a few bolt ons. I could also use a lot of parts from my civic. The whole thing is i will have a comfortable car that's reliable because it's basically stock except for some boltons and a ported head and it's still fast because it will have atleast 200 hp at the wheels. What do you guys think
if youre gonna buy a gsr just leave the b18c in there...theres been quite a few people to come close to the 200 hp mark with a gsr with just bolt ons...
a GSR will take much more work to get to 200 hp than a jdm H22 type S. I won't feel comfortable driving from miami to texas to north carolina with a built GSR motori
done it...u are better off working with the b18c you have now.. a built b18c is a lot more reliable than an h22... its a lot harder to get an h22 to 200whp than u think

In terms of aftermarket support for the H22 vs. the b18c then yes, you're better off with a b series. However, a H22 with cams and bolt-ons is not far from 200 whp plus you have torque straight out of the box. If my b18c goes on me I'm going to do an H22 swap for sure.

VtecCorona, you are from jersey too? My car looks exactly like yours except for the carbon fiber hood... yes, u get torque out of the box, but its true the aftermarket support is almost non-existent... There are no decent intake manifolds for the h22 yet...only STR.... and people have been known to gain 20whp over the dc headers by going custom...there is potential but there is no aftermarket support... Another gay thing is u cant do forged internals in any h series unless u resleeve because of the frm lining... This sucks 'cos the h22 ringland tend to fail at around 250whp
Well, my main reason for doing a H22 would be cost. I'm a poor college student so for the price you get a 200 hp motor for 2200~ vs another b18c for 3500~ with 170 hp. I would be happy with a 200whp h22 integra.
I'm looking into getting either a new style M3 or an s2000 depending on my financial situation next summer.

I can understand the want for the H22 motor, but why the Type-S. As I understand it , the Type-S motor can only be used with the A.T.T.S. unit installed as there is no provision (bolt holes) for the center axleshaft on the back of the Type-S engine block.
its a lot cheaper to do a regular h22 with type s internals...if u are going for a killer build...buy an h22 with lsd...swap in type s pistons, jun 3 cams, smsp headers, 3 inch intake piping, 2.5 inch exhaust, v-afc ,that would make some killer power and still be realiable..
I was told that you could use a H23 crank, rods, and pistons into the H22 block and get more compression and displacement. Has anyone heard of that too?
yup u can...just dont use h23 pistons..u'll end up with a compression thats lower than stock...your best bet is to get an h23 crank, rod and type s pistons
if you want a nice teg with all the options then get a gs. it has the leather interior and sunroof plus it cost less. and if you are going to swap it out then you have just saved alot of money right there.
i swaped my gsr with a h22a and i was more than happy i sold my gsr motor for 2700 and bought my h22 for 1800 with bolt-ons and it dynoed at 190whp and 160lb of torque with dc header, cam gears, clutch and flywheel
it would be but...u'd have to run oil lines since the h23 doesnt have oil squirters and all that stuff....the h23 crank in an h22 block would make for a much cleaner/convinient setup
