Airbags on Dual Purpose Cars
Ok so this weekend I made another compromise in the ole' GSR and we are another step closer to a full blown race car. As it stands now I have no rear seats, a kirk rollbar, 5 pt harnesses and sparco Pro 2000 seats. After putting in the seats I really realized just how close that airbag is to my face. If this thing was to ever go off on the street or track for that matter I am assuming I would get burned severly and or sustain more injuries as a result. Do most people disable their SRS on these type of cars? I was thinking maybe I leave the passenger one in tact and somhow turn off the drivers side. Is this possible? Thanks!
i see a lot of people that just take it out. but like you suggested, it's one of those compromises that kinda makes it a race car only.
SCCA rules require disabling airbags on the track, although it is allowed for them to be removed completely. I will do so but my car will only be "dual purpose" in the sense that it will still be licensed.

Just to clarify, the car is not in SCCA races (At least not yet), however I do frequently attend HPDE's, wutocrosses, etc. The car is rarely driven on the street, but none the less it is still registered and street legal. For that matter it still serves as backup if my daily beater were to ever breakdown.
