Okay, so tonight on my way home, I noticed that I couldn't take 1st gear up to 35 like usuall. Same with 2nd. I redline it at 25 and that's the highest my car will let me go in first gear now. And 2nd only lets me go up to 45 I think. It's like my redline changed or got messed up. So when I got home, I checked my ecu and I was throwing CEL 31. Well...According to http://www.c-speedracing.com/faq/05.php, code 31 shouldn't apply to my 97 civic. It's only for the 92-95 Prelude. I am running a P2P ecu (96-98 EX). This just started tonight and I'm kinda worried. Any thoughts?Thanks.

 

Your car is probably in limp mode, and are you sure you are reading the code right?

 

Yeah, I quad-checked everything quad times.

 

since you have a different ecu in your car, try plugging in the stock one (if you have it), and see what code it throws.

If it is in limp mode, will resetting the ecu make it all better again?The only thing I did yesterday was put my 2nd CAI extension peice on because I finally had a hole put in my chassis for it. I have also noticed that my car is BACKFIRING like CRAZY. Could I be running WAY to rich?Would that cause this CEL and these symptoms?Thanks.
