as of 2 days ago i've noticed a wretched smell coming out of my car. i popped the hood and it reeked of burning oil... i checked the oil level and was down to nothing. (a month ago i was good.) looked all around the engine bay area and no sign of leaks.

i did an oil change yesterday and only got about a quart of oil out (not good, i know). threw on a new HAMP filter and synthetic 5w30 but it made the same smell after driving around for a good 10-15 minutes. a friend suggested moving up to a heavier oil but i dont think that will stop the problem per se. any suggestions?

 

is your car smoking? If it is smoking blue smoke then oil is being burned somwhere in your engine. probably check the piston rings...

 

do a compression test, is the car running normal?

 

could be many things.
check rings and valve guides

 

i'll have someone drive behind me and check my fumes...

car is running fine, power seems to be normal. i'll also do compression test.

I've got the same prob. My car runs fine, pulls as hard as any other GSR I've been in, yet it burns oil like no tomorrow. My baby burns about a quart every 800-1000 miles of hard driving, 1500+ taking it easy. It drives me nuts, and it's almost embarassing shifting at 8400 (I have an ECU) and watching a puff of blue smoke come out the exhaust. Makes me feel like I own a Dodge Caravan or something Regardless, I need a rebuild and plan on doing it as soon as I have sufficient time/funds.

 

Check around the base off your Dip Stick t00b for leaks. this has been a problem for many honda engines. . . . the t00b comes loose and spills oil to varrying ammounts (some a little some enough to cause engine failure).
