dohc zc pics
the black valve cover ZC's that fit the 2nd gen CRX and 4th gen Civic have the engine identification "ZC" & serial number stamped on the front of the block just below the head and right next to the transmission (same place as most Honda engines) - the brown valve cover ZC's that fit the 1st gen CRX and 3rd gen Civic have the engine identification "ZC" and serial number stamped on the top rear of the block, next to the transmission kind of above the starter and below the thermostat housing - they do not have valve cover bolts out beyond the edge - a black valve cover from an 88-89 integra D16A1 will bolt right on them
There were 2 versions of the "ZC." One version was the JDM SOHC Vtec. The other was the DOHC non-vtec. These are the only engines that had this stamped on the block. The US version was the D16A1. This is not a ZC, but the D16A1 block can be used with a JDM DOHC ZC head.

lol, well thats all I could find on my server, I know I've done way more swaps than that.. I think I've done over 20 ZC swaps for myself and others.. Good little motors

Enjoy
Oh and to answer your question, the brown tops have a different valve cover bolt config than the 2g Blacktops. The 1g "olive tops" have the same bolt config as all d16a1's. all the pics I posted are 2g Blacktops

No, that's incorrect. There were not only 2, but rather several engines that were stamped "ZC," including SOHC non-VTEC non-OBD, SOHC VTEC OBD-1, DOHC non-VTEC PGM-FI non-OBD and OBD-1, DOHC non-VTEC non-OBD dual-carb, etc.

well the zc is 1.6l, the b18a (LS) is a 1.8l motor.

1.6L D-series vs. 1.8L B-series.
Even though the horspower differences aren't much, the B18 (LS) produces signifiacntly more torque. They may appear to be similar, both having DOHC non-VTEC heads and similar valve cover designs, but they are actually two completely different engines.
