Antenna removal?!?!
Hey everyone,
Just wondering if someone has any tips on removing the antenna mast from the electric antenna on G3 tegs. Mine is worn/bent so I've bought a new mast but cant work out how to get the old one out of the motor assembly. My Hanes manual says to remove the nut and spacer and then switch the radio on and guide the mast out as it goes up. I've tried this but the mast just seems wedged in there. There is also a smaller black rubber sleeve at the base of the mast and I cant remove this either.
Any ideas cos the damn clicking noise it makes (sounds like anti-aircraft artillery!!!) is really starting to bug me.
Thanks
Mike

This should help you: http://www.bseries.net/html/garage/s2kantenna.php
I don't recomend following the screwdriver hammer approach for removing that screw thing. if you are reusing it, it will look bad, and if the screwdriver gets out of that groove, scrape goes the paint.
get a pair of needle-nose pliers, you can use a rag as well if you are really worried, but it isn't nessisary.
open the pliers a little, place them in two of the 4 grooves on that screw thing on the antena. gently try and unscrew it, it shouldn't be on there too tight, there is an O-ring on it though so you will have to continue unscrewing it with the pliers until you can get a decent grip with your fingers, then unscrew it the rest of the way. pull the mast out.
the trickiest part of this is getting the new mast in, you may need some help from a friend or family member, have them turn on the radio and then off again, to get the antenna into the thingy. if it is only you, you will have to be quick on your feet to turn on the radio, wait for the motor to stop turning, turn off the radio, and then run back and get the gears on the mast to engage with the gears on the motor before the motor stops turning.
installing the little screw back on is opposite of removal. don't overtighten or next time the mast stops working it will be tough to remove that screw thingy.
good luck and I hope I gave a clear enough explanation
