89 hb dx tranny fit on a dohc zc?
Take my word on this you would be VERY unhappy running it. I did for 2 days and ran out and got something else, Get a ZC box or at least an Si box. DX box totally sucks.
i'm just kind of curious but why would the dx trans be so bad on a zc? how does the engine respond with that trans? also how high would/ it rev on the freeway going 70mph? does it just give it that bad of accleration? thank in advance
The DX is more of a gas mileage engine. Think about it - A small torqueless N/A ZC needs to rev a lot to actually move the car. An Si tranny has much better gearing for this purpose.
The best gearing combo for this engine is the ZC trans replaced with the USDM SI final drive. The ZC has close spaced gears and the SI has the better final drive, combine them and your car will accelerate completey different.

The gearing is all wrong for it you will only get it into its powerband in the first 2 gears and on shifts you are way below the pwerband, the car will run like crap. I did it for one week when I got mine, I did not get better milage (I get 35 with a ZC trans) and now the car is geared the way the motor needs to be to run. It will bolt up but you will never get the engine in its sweet spot and as a result will feel like a D15 running on 3 cylinders. Take my word on this as someone who has done exactly what you are asking. I have had the DX, and Si (2 actually) and ZC trans behind my DOHC blacktop ZC. And have considered THe Hybrid ZC /Si box described. Maybe this spring.
