Default replacing an oil pan

is it an easy fix ?? i was driving with some of my friends through the canyons and we ran into a patch of rocks which looked to be set out on the road purposely...my friend in his rx7 which is jsut as low as mine was able to go over it ok but after i went over it it put a hole in my oil pan. yes i know i should have tried to avoid the patch but if my friend in his 7 could make it over then i thought i'dbe able to as well. guess not...people that put things on the road suck.

yes its a fairly easy process...just make sure you replace the gasket and that the surface is clean before putting it on (i.e. the original gasket taken off, and clean the surface with rubbing alcohol)

how big of a hole did it leave?
Yeah, Ive replaced a couple of oil pans and its very true that you must clean both surfaces. I used acetone (paint thinner) to clean the surfaces, alchohol should work as well. I would also use a new gasket because you wouldnt want to risk it with the old one. Also use some kind of high temp auto silicone sealant like ultra grey or ultra black.

cleaning won't be to bad. just get some heavy duty degreaser and some hot water and as far as replacing the pan, just drain the oil (or the rock did that for you ) then take off all the nuts and remove the pan. you won't have to clean the pan like stated above because it's junk, right? so take your new gasket and pan and reinstall

my service manual says the same thing like the other guys, clean the pan and engine surfaces with either acetone or laquer thinner, and then just get a new gasket, make sure to put some RTV sealant on it too, and tighten it down in a spiral direction.
