Did a little work today, just for kicks....
I took it upon myself to do some small projects recently. Here is my new, imporved engine bay...
I painted the heatshield, made my CAI into short ram fitted with a butt *** ugly APC filter (didn't have K & N at the store i went to) and i got this nice nuespeed tiebar for $25

Just thought i would share some progress in the mist of all the problems i have been having (bent rim, clearance problems, killed rear bumper, someone hit car with ball, series of new scratches from unknown sources, and new fender dents.)
Thanks all for looking but prolly not caring about my late night boredom, peace.

Just got a new filter, K & N, red.
Ok, explainations : Did short ram for better throttle responce, its cold here so i don't need CAI.
The Neuspeed bar, he just didn't want it. He was given it in a trade for store credit, he is a manager at an audio shop.
Yes i did use high temp paint, its a little worn around the bolts but thats from putting it back on. Otherwise, i am going on 5 months with the first coat, no problems.

I did the same exact thing but for different reasons...There's nothing wrong with hacking the AEM in half...As long as the 2nd half is still in great condition you can always make in into a CAI anytime you please by using some sort of coupler/silicon hose to attach the two pipes again. It sort of better for those paranoid with rainy weather. Short ram in wet season and CAI in dry season.
For the original first post w/pictures, it seems you cut your AEM too short...I'll try to take pics of mine tommorow and show how I did mine. I measured with my perception.
As far as painting your heatshield...it improves the overall appearance of your engine bay. How many coats did you use? Did you do prep work at all or just washed it down with soap and water and layered it with high temp paint. One last thing...is that glossy paint or semi gloss?

O im afraid there is a problem with hacking apart an aem. why not just sell it someone who will enjoy it and buy a short ram. yea and it looks you have cut yours to short. i dunno to me it looks alot cleaner to have left it regular aem cold air then to keep cutting it and siliconing it. just my two sense. i agree with 96tegls on this one
I cut the intake in the first place simply for a by pass valve for the CAI and it just happened to be long enough for short ram so i decided to try that for the winter.
I'm about to cut my AEM too. I'm doing it because my CAI got a hole near where the filter attaches to the piping. I guess i'll save the other part of it and try to patch it up and use it as an extension during the summer. Did you notice an increase in throttle response when ya'll cut it?
