Default Need some help on Advancing Ignition Timing

Just got a few questions that need to be answered.

1) Is advancing turning towards the firewall and retarding turning towards the front of the car.

2) What does connecting the two terminal electrical connector do?? Is it neccessary to connect them when adjusting the timing?

1. just line up the timing mark with the black notch that's facing away from the white TDC mark.. i forgot which way to turn the distributor though, you'll know it when you see the timing marks

2. You want to short out the ECU connector by the passenger side kickpanel because if you don't, the timing will automatically be set back to the original setting even after you've made adjustments.

HTH

edit: whoops i might've mixed it up

But isnt that only on GSR's?

I thought the LS motor doesnt automatically retard it back by itself?

okay heres another question I need answered.

My ignition timing was advanced to 18 degrees about 1/2 year ago and I just recently had to retard it back to 16 degree so I can go Aircare.

Well before when I got it advanced we did short the connectors but recently when we retarded it back to 16 degrees we didnt short it. So my question is, Is it still at 18 degrees or 16 degrees?

Thanx guys
