Default I think I have a short...

My radio in my car is having problems with the volume control. Sometimes it doesn't work at all, other times it won't go up and down properly, and you can always hear 'static' through the speakers when you mess with the volume. Is there a way to replace the entire factory harness, or what else could I do? I know this is an audio question, but I figured someone on this forum would know more about this 'tech' question than the audio forum. Thanks for any help you can give me. Oh yeah, my car is a 96 hatch.

1) Most likely a short... what i did is just rip the harness off and solder the wires together and then put those plastic covers over them... gh3tt0!
2) It MAY also be your speaker wire coming unhooked ever so lightly, however if all of the speakers are doing its, you're right in thinking its the harness
EDIT: it ALSO may be your whole radio... it could be uber fucked... who really knows

I know it's not the radio because my stock radio was doing it and I now have an Eclipse CD player in it and it's doing it too. What did you mean, rip the harness off and solder?

Sometimes Baby smells bad

A short what? The probrem you are saying is open circuit. A loose wiring of somekind. It is a probrem in a harness wire.
