some Pics from friday's grand-am practice at VIR y0!
first off... i got to meet Bill Auberlin. Super nice guy! Chatted w/ him for quite a while. We're real close now; he'll prolly send me a Christmas card.
I told him congratulations on the Speed Touring Car championship, but also said I was pulling for Pierre Kleinubing. hehe...
Cobalt/Cybernation RSX that Blake Fuller co-drove at the 12hr Homestead enduro
Honda of America Racing team Type S's
some friends of mine crewing for the Nuzzo Motorsports Mini team
The roof of one of the Mini's... about the ONLY thing cool about them...
one of the mini's broke 3 belts today! Apparently one belt is used to drive the supercharger, water pump, oil pump, alternator, etc. and it just sucks. not very impressed w/ the mini's racing ability.
Cort Wagner was FLYIN'! and he knows how to add tha bling factor to the 'RARI
just the sound of his car at idle is amazing!
Team Lexus was giving out some sweet posters
i met the DAL Motorsports guys... very cool.
talked w/ some of the cobalt/cybernation rsx guys
now gotta head to bed so i can head back up there in the morning.

I'm routing for the Schuitemaker car for GSII... too bad it's Michael's car, so he wants to qualify all the time while BJ Zacharias is a better driver...
BJZ told me he was going to try and break into the 2:06s, and he's not too far off the mark since he was in the 2:07s this morning... Sorry for the non-
digression...

I talked to GA Cup ITR guys Saturday in the paddock about the cars. Yes, they run Hoosiers. They run about 750lb front springs/1050 rears with Motons. Engine management system, injectors, fuel pressure, headers, diffs and final drives are unrestricted so a lot of gains have been made there. One team admitted 208 hp at the wheels. Min weight is 2375 w/o driver.
The SWC cars are really held back by their tires! I heard that they'll get stickier tires in '04.

Amazing? Try DEAFENING! We visited the FoW race shop earlier this year, but I had no idea the car was that loud at idle. Pierced my ears as it was leaving the pits! But yeah, I agree, it sounded awesome.
We were closing the gap with this Z until his engine blew. We were more than happy to help him push it back into the paddock tho
.
I crewed with Planet Earth Motorsports (Grand Am Cup, 911 in GSII) and Ferrari of Washington last weekend. Both teams took first in class and I picked up some knowledge and cool hats as a bonus. I must say that was one of the funnest motorsports weekends ever. No Stiffany tho

Are you sure about that? I heard Jeff blew a half-shaft, not a motor...

Actually you probably know more than I, we just noticed him falling off pace then he had to stop and be pushed back into the paddock. We didn't know exactly what was wrong.

That first pic is of NASA American Iron gridding up on the hill, with an SCCA volunteer in the shot, helping out. NASA pit/grid was actually run by myself, Chuck Reyes, and Mike Furman (aka Furball) during the AI sessions as far as Race Control was concerned. The SCCA guys simply did what they could to help out up there during the NASA groups, and I for one thought they were very friendly and helpful.
That second pic is of the legendary Chris Economaki (in golf cart, see http://www.nationalspeedsportn....html ) interviewing Mike Deford from NASA, during one of the NASA/US Drift lunchtime drifting exhibitions on VIR's new Patriot Course (north course divider road + south course divider road + connector roads.) That right there shows you just how much attention NASA got during the weekend...

First time at an event this big. It was more then I was ready for. This event was BIG for NASA and they did receive allot of good attention.
As for the SCCA guys, well I don't know if I could ever work for them just because everyone that worked the event was used to how it was a decade ago.
I had mixed feelings about the scca people. Some people were ok to talk too and others were not.
