Default Sound that comes only when raining like it's banging

It's a 2003 civic si. Has 17 inch wheels with I think Falken tires and a ThermalRD exhaust... He said it's a nasty banging vibrating noise and he's heard the sound only in the rain......

BTW the car is not mine but a friends car... He's asked on 2 other forums with no answers

I got the noise too, in a 02 SI. The sound was like a popcorn machine in the back seat. I brought it to Honda five or six times...could never figure it out. Got rid of the car and got a 03.

i think that it is the exhaust hitting the sway bar that damn thing is so big, and the motor moves a lot with the stock mounts

It's a known problem on the DC5 and EP3 chassis. What's causing the problem is aftermarket exhaust systems. The Magnaflow rep over at clubrsx said they chose to use a slip joint design on the B pipe to avoid this "problem."

They said something about: when it rains, it causes the exhaust pipe to expand and contract quickly, which causes the clunking noise *or something like that*.

It's just something you'll have to learn to live with when it rains.
