Default Some pics of my techedge DIY 2.0 kit

Took me quite a few hours to assembly, i was being pretty damn meticulous.
I used the volkswagon sensor, and picked up the mating connector for about $10.
I also bought the DIY LD01 as you can see in the picture, but i might end up selling
it since im going to be using a Palm for display/datalogging.
Pretty decent kit for the money, if you are able to solder worth a ****.

In my case, I do not intend on having my laptop permanently mounted on my car . The other, I like looking at my a/f without logging/tuning on a daily basis. Also, I like to see that my logger/display has the same output. A lot of variables that I found, can change the logger's output so I'd like to keep that in check.

i have mine hooked to both the LD01 and a palmpilot at the same time. what's interesting is that the palm reads 2-3 tenths leaner than the LD01 display.

the ground point is fine. im using the radio harness. i'm suspecting the palm software. it must have a slight variation in the conversion algorithm. i'll recalibrate it when the new updated software is released.

looks exactly like mine , except my sensor is cobbled together with the cable, since I didn't get a connector...are they $10 at the dealer?! Definitely worth it. Personally, I haven't used the display since the first night I had it together. Kinda sad, since it's a pretty trick piece. I may have to mount it just for the "what's that?!" factor.

If you check out the techedge site, it lists the three part numbers for the connector. The shell, clips, and grommets.

hey, great thread!

Gives ppl who want to DIY an idea of what they're getting into. There are a lot of resistors on there, must've been fun keeping track of all of them.

How is the calibration process?

Racinskittle, DO IT!!! If I didn't have a innovate, I would be all over this.

How long did shipping take?

thats what i'm doing as well (v1.5, but same thing...). i find it a pain to keep the palm in my car. i would have to mount it securely, and i would have to turn it on every time i started my car. instead i use the palm for tuning, and then the digital display for daily driving (since i like to always keep an eye on it).

It ended up costing me about $170 shipped, if i remember. Took it about two weeks to arrive (australia).

On the techedge 2.0 kit, the calibration is done 100% in software. It only takes a simple serial cable (which is included in the kit). The software is availible for free download on the techedge site, and comes with preset calibration for the common VW sensor. The unit already comes calibrated to the VW sensor though.

Its definatly not for someone whos never soldered before, but its not all that difficult either. I used a cheap radioshack soldering iron, and some 96% tin/4% silver solder which flows well on smaller connections.

Sweet sounds good! Thanks a lot!

Im def. doing this myself. Nothing better to do. I've got plenty of soldering experience. I build my own digital multimeter. It SUCKED THO. I got it all done and then the damn case wouldn't fit lol. All that hard work and i couldn't even use it.

Also another good choice is 60/40 solder. Some thin stuff and it's non acid based.

Website for the 2.0 kit is: http://www.wbo2.com

One thing i forgot to mention, is that i did not order one of their cable kits. There is an 8-pin connector you need that plugs into the controller. I already had one of these connectors. They are commonly found for the microphone plugs on CB radios. Check out radioshack for those as well, but not all of them carry it.
I think the techedge cable "kit" is roughly $20 if you dont feel like shopping around for a $5-10 plug and some wire.

Here is the radioshack part number for the 8-pin plug.
I couldnt see paying like $20-30 for their cable "kit", when all you need is a $4 plug
and some decent wire.

edit: oops, fixed the link

The http://www.wbo2.com site has more info on the VW sensor (lsu4). Yes, its a true wideband. Took me a total of maybe 8 hours over a few days for everything.
The display does not need to be calibrated, unlike previous displays.

That site is confusing

With the DIY 2.0 kit and no cable, all you need to buy on top of that is the LSU4 sensor, the O2 sensor connector from VW, the cable connector from RadioShack and the LD01 display from TechEdge?

Second question: Does this do narrowband output to the stock ECU or does it only drive datalogging/display on add-on components?
