Track quality for the NOPI Finals in Fontana?
Has anyone raced this track since it was redone? How is the traction with the new concrete launch pad? Is the whole track smooth?
AND MOST IMPORANT..Is there enough shut off area for 150+mph cars to stop?
I keep hearing bad things

Thanks for the imput Tom, makes me feel a little better about racing there.

Earl-I hope that I'm able to get the time off work because I'd like to pick your brain a little about what you think my next steps should be to get me to the low 12's even high 11's if possible. Scott(STR) has helped me out alot and invited me to come so hopefully I'll get to meet you if not good luck and keep up the great work.
Earl, this is Victor Reyes (Power Enterprise). We were there at the end of September for Sport Compact Car's Ultimate Street Car Challenge, and it was scary as hell. It's super narrow....no real room to move if the car gets sideways, etc. There maybe enough shut down time, but if **** happens, you will wind up being flat up against a concrete barrier instead of dumping out into an open field.
I've heard that they are putting "sand" down towards the end of the track, but unless they excavate the ground and PUT sand in, then you'll just slide to the concrete barrier instead.
Perhaps things may have changed from then until now, but....we won't know until Saturday at least...

Yeah... According to the feet-o-meter (rolling wheel measuring tool), there is 2000 feet from the final timing light to the edge of the 3/4" thick (not deep) construction grade sand. Okay, now picture what goes through the chain of events when it comes to making a pass....(the abridged version). You stage, launch, shift....etc., *take your foot off the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal* (how long does that take?) slow down enough to turn out. Okay, according to a formula that makes sense to me I found online, the formula we can use here is b=0.05v(v) or v squared. That is a formula to calculate average braking distance of an emergency stop of a car including reaction time. Let's do a 150mph car. 150(150) = 22,500. 22,500(0.05) = 1,125 feet. Alright, now let's do a 200mph car. 200(200) = 40,000. 40,000(0.05) = 2,000 feet. Granted, these are figures for a regular car (4 brakes, 1 brake per wheel) at regular weight, etc., etc. What about fast Hondas with brakes only on the front wheels, and only a staging brake on the rears? How would that stop? ....yeah, they may be "lighter" in weight than this figure, but still...
Palmdale is 1 mile long, AND it goes uphill out there after the 1/4 mile.
In my opinion, Fontana is a dangerous track to run....

...2nd "import drag" event I've been to held at Fontana, and both weren't as "good". I wonder why....maybe it's the 3 separete lot layout of it or something.
