I WANT TO LOWER MY CAR MORE... SUSPENSION GURU;S HEEEEELP
ok hers my dilema, my si is sittin pretty right now at about 1.7 inches on some eibach pro kits, first when i bought these springs i did some intense research on them comparing them with the other brands and this seemed to be the set up I wanted to settle for the most because next on the shopping list was progress coilovers if I had the extra 500 back then.
so anyways I want to lower my car a tad more, but I dont want to buy coilover's, too much of a hassle, I want to buy some custom rate springs about .7 inches lower than these springs i am bringing the car to 2.4 inches but to make up for the drop I want stiffer springs, I really want something nice and stiff... not unbearibly stiff but something to eliminate the yaw softness of these pro kits, they were nice at first but they are just too damn soft.
possibly have them at 350f/400r
if anyone has any opionions or suggestions please lemme know.

I would call strano parts at 800/729-1831.
They set me up with a really nice suspension, and they can walk you through. Tell them.

Why are coilovers "too much of a hassle"?
They aren't much more work than putting springs on....and you can adjust them to whatever ride height you want.

well if you drive your car and arent satisfied with a certain ride height then you **** with them again and re tune them and throw them off balance again.
there are stories of threads rusting, ripping, and the stupidity of putting coilovers on your daily driver... i mean I dont wanna blow 350 for some gc's with custom rates.
I was thinking about some eibach ers springs...

im pretty sure your pro kits calculated yeild is a 1.3 inch drop but if you got 1.7 out of them hmmmm. i have a brand new set of sport linesfrom eibach that are stiffer and have a slightly lower drop. 200 shipped.
best thing to do is to buy some GC coil overs......
they always try to say stupidity; dailies dont need it. but who cars. its a really nice inexpensive setup....and if you ever do care to tune it out a bit the possibility is there with the hieght adjustment....
the other thing i would say about the yaw or sway...get sway bars...or bigger sway bars if you already have them. and just live with your ride height.
or chop a coil off of your pro kits. pple gripe about this aswell..... its ghetto or what ever. we have guys that do this that road race we're not talking about chrome rim rejects here.
if nothing else contact Ground Control via phone and let them know what up they have acces to custom rated eibach made springs and may have some for your intended use.

Do you have aftermarket shocks/struts ? The stockers are not gonna hold up much past 1.5 drops.... Why not just get coilovers....they are easily adjustable and give you WHATEVER drop you want....
I don't recommend cutting a coil off of the springs....not because of the ghetto factor, but that will give you a horrid ride.....

The other good thing about GCs is you can get custom rates. If you don't like the rates you have, you can return them and get different rates. I think the exchange charge is not all that much. Talk to GC about it.
GC coilovers are the way to go. Likeothers said, you can get whatever rates you want and set the hieght to whatever you want. The sleeves are anodized aluminum, they don't rust, BTW.
just cut your stock springs...and as far as the shocks...you can just go ahead and shove them up your ***.

the pro kits are rated at a 1.5 drop or at least were when I purchased them for my car and have settled .2 inches after about 2 weeks, I also have kyb agx shocks and konis are just a waste of money for what you get honestly, I mean koni's and some ground controls or what not would run you about 900 bucks if not more after tax, when you could take that money and save up about 300 more and get a set of tien ha's...
I would be very satisfied with those but when you blow a valve or need the shocks rebuilt what are you gonna do, its not like tein has a stateside shop... the koni coilovers are nice but cost as much as a new set to have them revalved, the kyb agx are a pretty moderately good shock compared to any peice of **** manufactured by tokico which I would never even spit on thier products, much less towards them.
ACK...
as far as the ground controls go they are nice and a lot of my friends have them but I just dont want to bother with the what ifs, I havent heard many horror storries about ground contols but I do know they do not like kyb agx that well, ground control and both kyb will let you know that it has been said in the past that the ground controls break the perch off the kybs... never heard of it that much but with the luck I have with this car im not chancing it.
as for your offer on the sportlines.
They are cool and all but not as stiff as I would like and Eibach themselves dont recommend them, or at least they didnt on thier website about a year ago when I went to purchase a set.

Well Ryan it is evident your intelligence you charmed us all with on clubsi is still present and arrogant as ever, you may try again to be "funney" another day, till then find yourself and your opinions back to that shithole of a website clubsi. kthx now get the **** off your soapbox and skip my posts.
I have 91 EX with Pro series springs and Koni yellows, and my stuff dropped THREE inches - double checked and they are as advertised , so what gives? I want to raise my ride as driveways are TERRIBLE - you might be best off staying where you are.
I now have a b16a in my car and that mug rides even lower than with the orig. d16a even with turbo, etc.
Could they have sent me the wrong ones (marked wrong)?
I am also trying to figure out which Eibachs to bring me up to a 1.7 drop like you...

ryane motorsports super link is out of the question... I would need to get coilovers if I got those trick *** nuckles... they are very nice and a great alternative but thats just TOO low at the top of a threaded body coil-over. I have seen them up close with ground controls and there were 3 threads till they gc's were topped out and that car was sittin 2.7 inches on the ****** floor mang... plus that **** is 600 bucks and you have to replace your lower control arms.
Ok. I was just guessing since Ryane's website showed a 2" drop with the stock springs & shocks(if I remember correctly). I thought those with your Eibachs would almost be perfect...
nah its a 2 inch drop with retaining your stock suspension geometry, if you put my kyb agx and the eibach pro kits on that you have whatever your particular springs settle to and plus the 2 inch drop of the ryanes which is totally unacceptable.
here is the response i got on clubsi.com
"Wayne,
Unfortunately there's no options for custom spring rates without having someone make them for you which will get very expensive.
I do know that there are companies that modify Eibach springs but they are for other applications (VWs come to mind).
About the only real approach would be to take some measurements off of your vehicle and then modify Eibach ERS springs to work (or modify the spring seat). What you would need to know is the following.
1. What spring rates are desired.
2. At your desired ride height, what is the distance from the lower spring perch (seat) to the spring hat.
3. What is the distance from the lower spring perch to the spring hat when the shock is uncompressed.
4. Your vehicles corner weights with you in the car.
With those things I think we should be able to custom make an ERS spring to work but it won't be easy. First we'd have to get the right size spring (based off of static height) and cut the ERS spring down to our theoretical hieght (based off your corner weights and spring rate). Then we would have to open one coil on the bottem of the spring and grind it. After all four springs are done, we'd have to mount them and then figure out how much we have to tweak each one to get it looking good.
Remember that ERS springs run $55 each, meaning they will cost $220 before modifications (modifying them is easy if you have the right tools). GCs can be ordered for $310 w/ custom rate ERS springs.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions or if you find any other type of option.

I've got a friend who's on Billstein shocks, and Neuspeed race, and its a great ride. The springs are quite stiff, but the billsteins work very well with them. I'm not sure if you can go very much lower than 1.5 in on those KYB's I've heard that they'll blow. H&R sports are supposed to be pretty stiff for a sport spring, you might want to check them out. If you decide to go the Koni sport route plus new springs you might want to look into their coilover kit. You can get it on Shox.com for 950 shipped. Roughly the price of Koni sports and new springs. Custom rate springs seem like too much of a hastle if you ask me. Just some suggestions
just fyi right off the site sportlines are their most aggressive springs. sport lines are more aggressive and more stiff than prokits.

plus from goin national.....were brought up on konis here in florida....but i spent the summer in DC norther VA area. the playahs in the game in VA swore up and down that they were pissed about optin' for the KYBs cause something about you can't go real low and were uinsatisfied with they performance. wished they had spent the extra chunk on konis....if not a fullracing threaded body setup.
any way i think someone mentioned kyb and progress go pretty good. i have heard this as well.
x2board. something to consider chopping a spring isn't going to hurt your ride. it hurts the ride just as much a dropping a coil over an inch without adjusting rebound on the struts. the spring compresses ata fixed rate if you chop the bottom part....like one coil doesn't cahnge the rate at which the spring compresses.
plus as far as rebuilding/revalving shocks your talking 2-4 years down the road right....unless A you race all the time or B you drop your car too low and rag on your shocks daily.
feel free to point out any mistakes in my logic.

well the kyb' s I might have said it or not were a great bang for the buck I love them and have never really heard of anyone having any probelms with them, back when I bought them the koni yellows were unheard of or I prolly would of looked into them, but being that they are no better a shock than the kyb agx besides the benifit of the modifyable perches...
They are not short stroke shocks, hence why I really had no interest in them they just have a huge market following right now so thats why everyone is buying them... Their threaded coilover on the other hand those seem to be pretty decent my friend likes them very much over the teins being the reliablity issue if you do ever blow one you can get it rebuilt at koni... (he roadraces more than he drives on the street)
the reason I wanted to lower the car just a tad is body roll the shocks are too soft when I lean into some turns and these shitty *** khumos dont make me feel so safe taking those turns either... so I just wanted some more body stability, I would possibly buy a godamn swaybar if the comptech wasnt so rediculously priced being its a stolen design anyways.
I didnt really want to buy coil overs or full "spec" coilover threaded shocks for the fact that #1, its increasingly stupid to buy racing gear for your daily driver #2, my car seems to like to get broken into and insurance doesnt like replacing aftermarket parts of mine, #3 I am saving up to purchase another car (240sx hatchback) for my weekend racer because I want an engine that was built for turbo instead of wasting money on this civic just to see it get stolen.
so I just wanted the cheap way out with some non adjustables, I need to purchase a camber kit for the car as well.
BUT OH WELL!!! Thanx for all of your help anyways... It was a long shot

I don't know what kind of Kumhos you have, but my Z-rated ones were pretty good. Fairly sticky autox tire, great street tire. I might buy a set for use as street tires on my new car. If you just want less roll, I'd go ahead and get a bigger rear swaybar. That will make the car understeer less and chop out a lot of body roll as well. Cheaper than getting custom springs/shocks as well, and no ride penalty. You'll be retaining what suspension travel you have right now which is a good thing since it allows the suspension to work properly. BTW, by cutting springs, you'd probably just end up screwing things up more than you can help. The car would be lower, but will have the same amount of roll since the rates aren't any higher. On top of that, you'd never get all 4 springs exactly even, so your car would be unbalanced. The G/C coilover setup would allow height adjustability, but if all I was looking for was a little less roll out of my daily driver, I'd just go with a swaybar setup, perhaps Suspension Techniques. Once that's on, you'd probably be able to soften the setting on your KYB and improve the ride too while you let the swaybar suck some roll out of the car.

well ill tell you this, moving from a yokohama a520, to a Khumo... you will notice the differance and hate anything less than what you had before...
I am gonna throw these shitty tires away and get a new set of a520's when i am properly funded **** all the bullshit.
I broke two of my racing harts on bs potholes that I have hit before in the racing harts, and I can TOOOOOTALLY feel the sidewall flex from these tires.
